Title: how much make up do you wear
Post by: stephaniec on August 01, 2015, 02:49:40 PM
I've never been into  much make up. I use a light foundation,  liner and false eye lashes. That's my everyday wear. I never got into eye shadow or blushes or lipstick or whatever. I find just my basic 3 tools or perfect for my look. How does everyone else express themselves make up wise. I definitely cannot walk out the door without my lashes though, that is a no, no.

None - daily moisturiser and eye balm dont count, or do they? :)

Basically none, these days... which is so odd to me when I think of it, since I loved makeup early on, but now it's a hassle and I like sleeping in. ;) I will do eyeshadow and eyeliner and lipstick for public appearances (TV, panel discussions, etc.) and very occasional parties, and that's about it.

I don't know my eyes feel totally naked without liner and lashes, like I'd catch pneumonia or something.

None usually since it's been really hot out. If I do it's eyeliner and sometimes eyeshadow too

On a regular day I don't wear make up. If I'm going somewhere special I'll put on light foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, some blush and lip tint. I always keep my toe nails painted and some times my finger nails, but I end up having to remove the finger nail polish if I'm going on a job interview. My avatar is without makeup.

I still think makeup is interesting.  My routine is moisturizer, sunscreen, mascara, lip stain and maybe a little gloss.  If I'm going out it depends on with whom and where.  Ask me to dinner somewhere nice, and I'll add a little foundation, a scent, and a bit of liner and shadow.  If I want to impress you, it's off to the spa for a mani, a petti, and a facial.

Probably good for my bank account that I'm usually not too interested in making much of an impression.   ;)

None as a rule.

The only time I've ever really worn makeup is when meeting members of the Royal family - and yes I really have on several occasions, most recently when Princess Anne visited our medical school, and I had a five minute one on one conversation with her about various medical topics that I have an interest in, and about which she was surprisingly well informed.

It depends, but most of the time I don't wear any make-up. Sometimes I use a little foundation to cover up some skin problems which are caused by the frequent close shaving.

foundation, liner, mascara, blush and lips..and a wig if that counts as makeup. Hopefully HRT will soften things a bit and I can skip some of that.

Depends.  If I'm not leaving the house, none.  If I'm going to the store during the day, a little.  If I'm going to a concert or a nice dinner, then out comes the mascara.  If it's been too long between electrolysis sessions, then it's all about that base.

I'm pretty light with my makeup anymore too.   Eyeliner, eyebrow pencil and fairly neutral lip shimmer is pretty standard, like never leave the house without it standard.   If I'm going to dinner or something then i add mascara.

I haven't worn foundation/powder/blush  in a very long time, I never mastered it and always felt the way I did it made my face look plastic-ey.....  Really need to do a MAC or Sephora session so they can show me what I'm doing wrong lol.

between none and pro levels depending on what I'm doing. example if I'm not leaving house then none. If I'm maid of honour at a wedding and am going to be in peoples important photos for ever, then professionally done.

I just do what girls my age do. Love having lessons though at mac etc

If I am just hanging around at home then no makeup

But i really love make-up, the amount of make-up depends on where I go.

To work or just out to the mall..

I'll put on eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, some blush and lipstick. The eyeshadow is normally a lighter color for day time use.

Going out at night a similar setup, expect i wear more makeup and darker eyeshadow like a nice dark blue and I will use the eye liner to create a hook next to my eye or use two colors of eyeshadow.

Women do wear more makeup at night..

My toes almost always painted with nail polish. In the summer months a nice color, my favs are maroon, red, blue or green. In the winter months.. as i wear boots or some form of closed shoe, i paint normally a clear coat with a white tips (french manicure), it makes my feet look for feminine.

My hands are also almost always painted, often with a french manicure or sometimes the same fav colors the toes are painted with. I don't always have colors on my hands as it does not last it chips quickly, but my boyfriend loves it when my hands are painted with a color. I often have nail art done on my fingers, normally the ring finger with some studs or just a pattern, but this is only when I got my nails done at a salon.

I really enjoy making myself look pretty and love to look good, and thats a huge turnaround from my old male self. I never worried about looks as a male.

I am still early on in my transition so I need the full gauntlet of foundation, shadow, liner, mascara, blush , and lips.

HRT and laser have helped greatly reduce the amount of makeup I need to wear to consider myself presentable to the world.   I am so looking forward to the day when I either don't need as much or don't care as much anymore.

Still at the beginning of my transition. So every day is foundation, concealer, blush, set, shadow and mascara. I'm hoping HRT and hair removal will do magic for me. But my mom and sisters never had the best skin and have to use a ton of makeup and I'm afraid the same is going to be for me.

I purchase foundation by the gallon  My make up routine feels pretty complex right now, but laser and HRT will be a big help. please let me know if I am doing something wrong (I'm the type of person that likes to know if there is spinach between my teeth) or if there is a better or simpler way of doing things.
1. Clean my face and shave very closely.
2. Apply lotion  (I use CeraVe)
3. Apply primer.
4. Apply Pixi Brightening Corrective Concealer to facial hair shadow area (my hair is pretty dark)
5. Apply liquid or stick foundation (I use MAC or Dermablend)
6. Lightly apply powder foundation that very closely matches skin tone.
7. Blush to cheeks and bronzer to jaw line.
8. Mascara
9. Eyeshadow and Eyeliner (sometimes)
10. Eyebrows.
11. Concealer.
12. Powder to hold everything together.

Moisturizer, foundation, concealer, setting powder, blush, lipstick and occasionally mascara. If I'm going out and have time it gets more complicated.

I also use lipstick or lip gloss.

I do have to agree with what a lot of people here as far as laser and HRT making a difference. At this point laser has made all the hairs on my face blonde. Before that I used to put the lightest shade of concealer all over my beard, then foundation a shade darker that matched my skin tone over it and a BB cream over my face. I'd blend all 3 in and add some light blush in for my checks because I'd have no color in my face, I'd blend the blush a bit as well. At this point my facial hair is so blonde I shave like every 3 days because people don't really notice it. I've gotten kinda lazy make-up is one of those things that looks great and I definitely feel prettier with it, but I also spend most of my time raising my toddler so its not practical really. Here's a sample from when I wore make-up a lot for an idea, also have a wig on because I was still in the Army, its a picture from roughly this time last year.

list looks good, do you find putting powder over the mac essential? I would have thought it being buildable it wouldnt need it.

I'm still experimenting with the routine, but the reason for for both liquid or stick foundation is that the liquid and stick foundation give me good coverage, but the hue is a little off with the MAC and the dermaBlend makes me look slightly pasty, so I use powder foundation to get the right color and get rid of shine from liquid foundation. I should probably take selfies with different foundations. Also, I'm not sure if I am using bronzer correctly.

My response that I was disturbed by how many girls in this thread replied "none" wasn't belittling or ridiculing ANYONE... it was posted in envy as I totally wish I could go out and feel confident with no makeup!  Unfortunately, I go out with "everything" on to be comfortable.  Hope that makes sense, ty ty.

Yes, what you just stated makes a lot of sense. I'm able to do a bit of both myself. Remember, we don't always know what you mean by something and as result we have to handle what we see when it arises. I hope that helps explain why we had to act, when we did. Hugs

Always foundation unless I run quick errands, then I add mascara and maybe lipgloss. I haven't done my whole face since I had FFS recently so I don't even know what I look like made up. It'll be a big improvement from before though!  :icon_kiss:

It depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing  :icon_chick:  When I first started wearing make up en fem I went crazy with it experimenting with everything I could get my hands on but I've toned it down quite a bit now

Mostly I like to make my lips pop but I'm kind of a minimalist with everything else

If I'm just running errands or shopping, I don't bother. I don't have the time or energy to worry about impressing a bunch of random people I don't know or care about.

For work, though, I do wear a bit of makeup. I work in a casino, a place where looking pretty means more tips, so I probably couldn't get away with not wearing it there. With that said, though, I'm very minimalist with it. Some concealer, a little blush, light eyeliner on the upper lash line, mascara, and a natural lipstick. (My profile picture is what my work makeup looks like.)

Basically I like the "looks like I'm not wearing makeup" look. I don't favor dramatic eyeliner, eye shadow, or bright lip colors. I like to keep it subdued and natural-looking, just doing a subtle little bit of enhancement on my eyes, cheeks, and lips.

Zero

(Not that I hate makeup at all or disagree with it) Makeup is great

I've only been going with the no makeup thing for about 5 weeks- before that it was every day for the first 2.5 years in transition. I don't know what signaled the change, I think I am just trying it out and it really started to feel good after I let my guard down post ~7 day mark so I kept going.

I do get odd looks from friends who haven't seen me in a while. I know I don't look as good in photos, but I feel happier and I think that shines through in real life more than anything. Guys still try to hit on me at home depot when I'm dead lifting 45lb pieces of lumber onto my cart, so I know something is still working.

Being able to wipe crap off of my eyes and go swimming without smearing mascara into my eyeballs is worth everything, though.

FREEDOM

BB cream, concealer and mascara are my basics.
If I want to look a little nicer I'll use eyeshadow, rouge, tinted lip-balm or lipstick and sometimes eyeliner and/or fill my eyebrows  :)

My makeup regime tends to depend on whether I am just going shopping or out for the evening. But three basics. I never leave the house without wearing Mascara - Dior Show, A red or Coral Lipstick (put on by brush and outlined with lip pencil) and with my fingernails painted/nicely manicured. In summer its toenails painted too.

My Beauty regime though is the following:-

I start by putting concealer on the area below my eyes and on any pimples (and depending if I have any bluish tint on my upper lip - almost gone now thanks to Laser treatments then there too. I pat it in. I then apply two drops of Bare minerals liquid foundation on my Bare minerals brush applying it with buffing strokes across my face , forehead and  chin and next blending into the hairline. Depending on whether I need light or medium, later I may let in absorb then going over with another two drops on the Bare Minerals brush. I buff well with the Bare Minerals brush. I then apply highlighter to the sides of my nose, under the chin (and if I am wearing a low cut blouse in my décolleté), above my cheekbones and the lower part of my forehead. I then use another foundation brush blending all this in. Next step is blusher (I prefer soft pinks on the apple of my cheeks brushed up to the hair line. Then using a separate powder brush I just o over the face with a very small amount of Bare Minerals Matt Powder to set everything in place. Next I focus on my eyes either 2 or 4 eye shadow shades depending on whether its a night time out. I also use either a black eyeliner or the rim of the lower lid or during the daytime I use either a dark blue or soft green eyeliner on the bottom lid half way in only (full line at night time).  I then use a soft brown make up to better define my eyebrows, brushing them weigh a brow comb (never use eyebrow pencil as it looks much bette using a soft brown eye colour). Then I take a lip pencil and outline my lips especially my pout (or sometimes called the bow), then fill in the lips with l;lipstick using a brush (fine), then pout the lips , remembering to put a finger between them to make sure no lipstick ends up on the teeth, then adding Bobbie Brown soft ink lip gloss for the final touch. Last but not least I put perfume behind my ears and on my wrists and if I am for a night with friends some in my décolleté!.
Thats my routine.

Dior's Diorshow is my go-to mascara as well. Paired with a red lip, as yourself, you can't go wrong. My current favourite is Chanel's 'Rouge Coco' in Etienne  :)

It depends on the situation.  As others have noted I do not want to develop a routine before going out that keeps me in front of a mirror for an hour or runs in the rain.  Lipstick has surprised me by feeling so fun and easy and that is it for me other than the need we all have for hygiene and moisturizing.

I once thought of make up as just facial stuff but then met a woman who does make up to accent/create cleavage! ;D

Fingernail and toenail polish are fun as is hair styling and brow shaping as time allows, and apparently some of us think that is make up too?  What makes this a pleasure still is having the choice to play with our self expression.  Let your true colors show!

Makeup is my friend.  Likely I wouldn't enjoy it as much if I had been using it all my life.  I love its ability to transform me into the woman I feel I am.

I start with a very close shave, and then apply a toner, and then moisturizer.  I use a powder foundation from Cover Girl, a lightener under my eyes, mascara, eye shadow, eyebrow pencil, blush and dusting of powder to set it all before applying my lipstick.   I have gotten to the point where the whole process can be done in 10 minutes.

It really depends.

Some days I'll leave the house without any on, some days with just a BB cream, most days with some on and at night, I go the lot.

None about 90 percent of the time, I just started dabbling in the stuff, still in the whole experimentation phase as you'd put it. But I do wear nail polish, and have tryed on things like foundation, eyeliner, lip stick etc., haven't found my groove yet.

Don't forget face serum as well, a good mask twice a week, and a daily scrub

For work or play its pretty much the same routine though I may pay more attention to my eyes if I'm going out in the evening.I go for a pretty natural look most of the time which takes 10 minutes at most.As a quite outdoorsy girl heavy make up just isnt my thing. One of my girlfriends(thats what we call women who are friends in NZ) is always trying to persuade me to glam it up and she has made me over but I always tone it down.

moisturize every day, foundation, eye shadow, mascara, lipstick, blush (to restore some color after the foundation washes it all out) and a powder to set everything and help with sweating, I often fix it at least once a day and the lipstick after every meal.

ohh forgot nails, I have been painting them for longer than I have been out so I often don't think of them in the same way as the rest of my make up, toe nails are a new thing mostly because of difficulty in reaching them :-) but my fingernails are always done, which can be hard my job destroys them I have to do them at least once a week usually twice but I feel naked if there not done.

then again I am very new this may all change as I get more comfortable with my looks, and with hair removal making the foundation less important.

Quite a bit at the moment.
I use two shades of cover sticks to conceal facial hair growth as I am still in the process of having it removed.
Due to this I have to evenly use makeup over my whole face.
I use a compact, a bronzer, rouge and a finishing powder. I also accentuate my eyebrows with liner and always wear mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow.

It may sound a lot, but I've got better at using as little as possible to get some very good results (finally).

When my facial hair is gone I expect I'll cut back on everything except rouge, mascara eyeliner and eyeshadow.

quite a bit, it takes it to cover up a green scaly hide.

I've been wearing it in guy mode for a while, but it's obviously "no make-up" make-up for now...

Cleanse, tone, serum, moisturise twice a day; sun protection every morning, scrub and mask twice a week, peel once a month.

Primer, concealer and fixing powder to hide dark circles, light powder on rest of the face and bronzer on cheeks, hairline, bridge of the nose and chin.

I've found vitamin E oil to be very good for general skin care.

A large brown grocery sack and a little lip stick other than that, nothing.  :)

Well, the idea of putting tons of chemicals on the skin did sound somewhat alienating and totally unhealthy.

But I tried coconut oil as a foundation and it works really well, but mixed with almond oil so it isn't so shiny looking.
I wear normal foundation sometimes, but like others have said, it does make the skin very plasticy.
Then mascara and sometimes eyeliner if I can draw carefully  ;)
Lipstick rounds it off, but not always needed, especially in the hotter weather.
I do think natural products are the way to go.

Hi Nicole;
Yes good points. I use serum immediatedly after I have had Laser treatment as I find it helps  the recovery process. I also have a really nice beauty therapist that I see as I have a full facial once a month, especially in winter as I find the central heating tends to dry out my skin. She uses a facial peel as pat of the treatment. Between facials I use an Avocado  base facial mask once a week and every few days I also use a Facial scrub. The thing is as we get older and especially with the HRT giving me such soft smooth sand silky skin its so important to look after it now I have got it.

Another thing I do (which I never did as before I started the transition) is once a week I fill a bath and put in some perfumed scent - just a few drops and some bubbles and then light scented candles around the bathroom and then lie in the bath (with my hair up of course)  and generally soak a few hours in the afternoon away. I then lie gently back and give myself a 15 minutes massage to each of my breasts as my Nurse practitioner has told me that as they develop in size, it is important to ensure that they are getting a good blood supply to the developing milk ducts and tissues.  After the bath its moisturising cream on my legs, thighs, arms buttocks, tummy and breasts and hand creme on my fingers, nails and cuticles and some breast cream gently massaged into and around the nipples.
As my girlfriends Maggie, Alison & Yvonne used to tell me - Now that you have become a woman it is essential that one make some time available to yourself  to make yourself feel good, beautiful and sensuous especially if you want to look and feel your best when greeting your partner when they come home.

None usually, people often think I'm wearing makeup thanks to my long eye lashes and awesome complexion. If I do wear makeup, its eyeliner and a bit of lip gloss.

Sometimes I'll put on some eyeshadow and mascara, but normally I don't bother with any of it.

I have quite a few scares due to various injuries, most have faded quite a bit and I figured most folks wouldn't notice anymore, but I still see them and someone randomly drew attention saying "Wow!!! You've been through some...
(explicatives I won't print)

One is kind of a large fishhook shape on my left cheek and another is from a long gash on my right cheek and then there's the one from nearly getting my nose torn off and some smaller stuff

So anyway, I'm thinking possibly I should start using a light foundation again

I've got these weird brown blotches that appeared on my face last year. They are either age spots or from the HRT or both. Light foundation is perfect.

Right now, none, just a compression garment and sunglasses, and I'm ready for the day, but usually I wear under eye concealer, eyeliner, a light coat of mascara, light colored eyeshadow on my upper lid during the day, some bronzer during the summer or a little blush during the rest of the year, and lipstick.  After I heal, I am going to stick with the same routine; I like makeup. :)

Still new to makeup, but the staples are lip gloss, mascara, and an eyebrow pencil.  Sometimes a light powder to even out my skin ever so slightly.  For occasions requiring more presentation I'll include a light foundation, eye shadow, mascara and lipstick.

I only tend to wear make up when I am going out for a night out or some event.

I love the idea of wearing makeup everyday but I am too lazy to do it to be honest.

My everyday makeup is just liquid foundation and concealer for a few problem areas (chronic dark circles under my eyes -_-). It takes like five minutes to put on, and it really brightens up my face and makes my complexion look more smooth. I'm way too lazy to do full makeup on a daily basis, but I'm starting to think I should learn to do it properly for special occasions and that kind of thing.

Depends on where and when I'm going and what I'm wearing. Sometimes it depends on my mood. For work, super basic, enough to hide my dark circles and what's left of my facial hair, mascara, and sometimes eyeliner. My current avatar is pretty much my typical day out.

thanks for the info, It was strange, I don't know when they showed up . One day I look in the mirror and saw them , I figured they were age spots then someone else mentioned that HRT gave them freckles . A light layer of foundation does the trick though.

Generally I won't use any if I'm just going out for a short time. If I'm going someplace special or going to be away for a while, I'll use a foundation but not too heavy with a light powder brushed over the foundation. I find it helps disguise any facial hair growth.

Occasionally I'll do some mascara on the eye lashes but with glasses, no one really notices but I know it's there.

Generally some clear nail polish as I find getting a good coverage with coloured polish difficult.

Some lipstick and I'm good to go.
