Hello! I'm hoping to start HRT around 14-15. I just turned 14 not to long ago. I've been having thoughts about becoming a girl for a awhile now and everyday the thoughts come more and more. (sorry if im not making any sense). But first I need to come out to my parents and then see a gender therapist. I'm kind of nervous to start HRT because there's risks like blood clots and that scares me. Also how long do people live on hormones for,I've read somewhere that a lot of people died at the age of 30 and that's so young. The thought of death really scares me. Thank you!

Concerning hrt, its possilble there are hormone blockers first. Yet there were cases of people getting hrt under 16.
Well concerning blood clots its mostly with oral intake, like pills.
Many people now use micronized bioidentical estrogen sublingually. That way the liver is bypassed with intake and clotting is supposed to be less.
There are other forms of application, patches, gels, implants and injections.
Concerning health, bioidentical estrogen and progesterone is available.
Many people have used it for decades.
Cases that make headlines might have different causes, or a predisposition like a liver condition, which should be rare.

I started on oral hormones around age 25 or 26 and when I had my surgery at age 30, my dose was cut to a quarter. Around age 53 I stopped taking hormones because continuing would increase the risk of cancer. I am now 63 and don't have any health issues as the result of transitioning. Like any woman, I had a few years of hot flashes when I quit the hormones but with proper medical care, HRT can be very safe.
Although there is not a lot of long term medical studies, the ones that do exist indicate transgender people on HRT live "normal" long lives. That does assume that people are getting good care, and are taking care of their health otherwise. We do know that for some diseases risks go up, but for others they go down, but these things can often be managed. Like taking a non-oral estradiol instead of oral estradiol, which does increase the blot clot risk.
Hey there ask your therapist!! And good on you girl!! Wish I started when I was 13 when it became apparent I ain't a boy... But from what I know it possible. Kim Petra's is a good reason to be optimistic!!

Do you know enough to face them and talk with them, do you need an education or would you like to hand them a letter and wait for them to read it? These are the options open to you and we have much of this information ready to go. Let us know what you need.

We do have letters already written that you can draw from in writing yours.
I watched I am jazz last night, and it was a lot more complicated dealing with HRT at her age (your age) due her still growing and the potential of it stunting her growth if they give her to much.
Recommend watching it.

I personally also like the twin explanation... people will be basically like their male/female twin, with still the same sense of humour etc...

Well girl, how comfortable and close are you with your parents? Have they ever talked about lbgt openly in front of you? Are they accepting of difference? You could break the news asap and tell them with words Or letter. If you're dysporia is controllable you could be more hint-y to it.... Ask for neutral gender pronouns, where and buy ubi-sex clothes, ect. I was a bit nervous coming out at age 20. My dad who I haven't seen in years was very open and cool with his only kid being trans which was a nice surprise. My mom was more worried and confused at first but was still accepting and in time has became my best advocate :). If there is anything else you need help with give a shout.
