"Some activists have announced plans to boycott the film due to its inaccurate representation of the riots – though it is yet to be released, and the judgements are based solely on one trailer.
As with many others, the MTV Decoded star raised concern the "whitewashing" and "trans-erasure" in the film – with drag and trans activists played by men, and the main character a white gay man."
The really dumb thing about all this hoo baa is that the people who cut the trailer are often not the director, it's the PR people and they frequently (almost always) have no idea what the movie is about let alone the story. They're given some footage (some of which never gets used in the final film) and instructed to make something that will sell the movie. It's always a recipie for disaster. People screaming blue murder over this are making themselves look more stupid than fans screaming about the first Ant-Man or Guardians of the Galaxy trailers which were indeed crap trailers that represented nothing about the final product.
the movie could turn out to be brilliant I haven't a clue. I'll probably see it. the thing that's getting people upset is the main character starting the riots and leading the revolt which is false. I hope the movie is good because its the beginning . why start out with a blatant falsehood when your making a movie telling the story of a movement. It's kinda like saying the civil rights movement was started by John Kennedy .
Well it wouldn't be the first time a historical event was totally mangled and bastardised by Hollywood.
