Title: San Diego, CA
Post by: Peter Pan on August 16, 2015, 03:58:11 AM
I'm a nonbinary trans person, and I just moved to San Diego. (Near the Clairemont Mesa area? I think?)
Does anyone know of good transgender groups in SD? Preferably ones that would be good for introverts like me who are nervous about being the newbie to a group. Like, maybe a smaller group. Since it's such a big city, I dunno how likely that is, but. I'd prefer a smaller group, I think.

I left San Diego two years ago after living there for 12 years. I hope you have a better experience there than I did.

Your first step is the San Diego LGBT Center in Hillcrest at 3909 Centre Street, google thecentresd for the link.

They are kind of a gathering location for resources to make themselves known within the city. Most of the LGBT services are in Hillcrest, which is more or less the 'gay ghetto' (even though it's one of the best neighbourhoods in the city).

If you're on Facebook, you might want to add Project TRANS at the Center on your feed.

While you said you're introverted, if you feel like socializing, there is the SRO lounge in the Gaslamp, the Redwing Bar in North Park, and to a lesser extent, Numbers in North Park.

If you have any other questions of San Diego specifically, let me know. I prefer the solitude of the Sonoran Desert now, but still keep in touch with what's happening in San Diego.

Sigyn pretty much covered it but did leave out The Neutral Corner. I have never been to one of their meetings so cannot vouch for them, still another possible option.

Thanks to both of you! :) I won't be able to visit much of anything yet because I'm reliant on my dad for transportation, but it's good to know what's out there.

Older topic, but if you have not found it yet there is a group Monday nights in Oceanside starting at 6 PM.

When I lived in San Diego a few years ago a monthly support group for non-binary identified people had started at the pride center which is located at 3620 30th St - I don't know if that is technically considered Hillcrest or Northpark but anyway it's in that area. Hillcrest is not very far from where you are - take the 163 south and exit at university and go east, or take the 805 south, exit at university, and go west to 30th street and then go south and its s small building on the right a couple of blocks from university - look for the little pride flag on the building.

I also don't know if they are still meeting or not since I haven't lived in San Diego for a few years but it's something you might check out. San Diego is a gorgeous city with a vibrant LGBT population.
