Title: I Got an Essay about Trans Identity and Politics Published Today In Guernica
Post by: Gabrielle_22 on August 17, 2015, 03:43:43 PM
Hi everyone,

so, after beginning my transition and losing my ability to return to my home in the Caribbean due to transphobia, and especially after seeing a transphobic essay earlier this year in the New York Times by Elinor Burkett, I wanted to write something. I wanted to respond to her article, as well as to talk about trans* identity in the Caribbean, so as to spark off a discussion. I just wanted to share it here on Susan's because this website is one of the things that helped me think transition was possible in the first place, seeing all the stories, photos, and resources on here.

I can't link directly to it on here, as far as I know from the rules, but it is called 'The Flight of the Ruler' and is in Guernica's current issue online, under their nonfiction features.

Every narrative and argument we put out there can help, and I hope this can do the same for somebody out there, especially anyone in a small place in which transition can seem impossible! :)
