So, I've been taking classes at the community college for the better part of 10 years now... Officially I started college at a major university back in the year 2000, and I'm still working on my 2-year Associates Degree, lol.
I'm taking this semester off since we're having a baby at some point in the next month's time. I was taking a short Physics class (8 weeks long) when I discovered I was trans and started presenting more feminine half-way through it this past summer. I still went by [Old Name] though.
What I'm curious about is this. I will be attending class again in the coming Spring (hopefully), another night class after work most likely. I really want to approach the professor on the first day and say, "please call me Kristina if you don't mind during roll call and so on." Is that too much to ask? I don't want to even have my old name mentioned in class even once! I really want to be "myself," but my name likely won't be legally changed yet at that point. It's ~5 months away and I'll have been on hormones for ~7 months at that point, and I will have been growing my hair out for ~9 months. I will probably keep a bra and change of shirt or something in the car for before class. My boobs are aching something fierce now, almost constantly, so hopefully I'll see some decent growth in that time. :) Is it reasonable to think I can pull this off? Do you think the teacher will be able/willing to manage something like this?
Yeah I'm sure professors can and will be accommodating if you explain

Hi Kristina and welcome to Susan's. Good luck with your studies. By the way, what are you studying.
:)
Oh I'm just trying to finish my 2-year degree, probably won't be going for a 4-year. I only have 3 classes left though! Physics (part 2), Spanish, and C++ Programming. I can probably take the programming online, but the other two classes will need to be face to face. I just had another friend recommend I contact my professor before the semester starts, but she thinks I should be able to go all semester by only my chosen name, even using it on papers!
Does anybody else have experience with this though?
I would let them know, I'm sure they can work with you. It's no different than having to accommodate for something that another student needs. Hugs
