Title: name change and insurance claims
Post by: awilliams1701 on August 18, 2015, 03:50:14 PM
I would like to get my name changed ASAP, but I'm also about to get my wisdom teeth pulled. I have insurance and its mostly covered. I'm concerned if I get my name changed before I get my insurance updated that they could deny coverage. Does anyone know if this is a problem? I have no idea when my teeth will get pulled, but I am getting a consultation tomorrow. I'm just hoping it doesn't get scheduled in November and I have to wait until then to change my name. On the other hand I would hope it wouldn't take that long to get my insurance updated.

I didn't have any issues because they just have to bill it under your previous name tell you get it updated with your insurance or in my case work needed all the documents in hand to change it on payroll which in turn affected the insurance. Hugs

Ask your dentist or surgeon to file under your old name with your insurance. Then update them after it's over.

Just make sure that you have them bill it under the name your insurance is under at the time, and if there are any snags then have it re-submitted. You shouldn't altogether be denied though.

You won't be denied for this. If anything you may have to explain to the insurance why your name changed.

I asked the doctor and he said its possible. Since I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled next Friday I'm just going to wait until after that to change my name.

I didn't have any problems. I took me a few weeks to get my insurance updated as I had to change my name with my employer, which took a week as hey made me fill out a new I9 and W4, which required me to wait for my new Social Security card to arrive. Then, they notified my insurer who had to update their records and generate a new card. In the mean time, I had lab tests and an endo visit. They used my old name as that was what was on my insurance card and I didn't have any problems.

So I got my teeth out, I had a nasty week of recovery, this week has been busy. I'm thinking I might get a chance to go Friday to file it with the court.
