Title: Swimming before top surgery
Post by: AaronMiddleton on August 18, 2015, 06:27:32 PM
Hey guys, I'm pre-everything (only pre-T for maybe another month though!) and I'm thinking about starting swimming again. Before all the chest dysphoria, I really enjoyed swimming, I'm a good swimmer, and my doctor thinks it will be good exercise to get me in shape for top surgery.

I'm a pretty large-chested guy, and was thinking about wearing an old binder (two sizes too big, but still binds well enough) with a loose rash guard on top of it.

Does anyone on here have any experience with going swimming pre-top surgery? Any advice?

I've been swimming in my binder but considering how large chested I am it doesn't exactly hide anything. I mostly go when no ones around.

I swim in an old binder and a (dark)shirt over the top of it. It works for me. Though, I took the sleeves off my tshirt (unpicked the stitches) because it was annoying me and the tshirt was a large and I'm a medium so the arm holes are a little big and my binder is visible but it doesn't matter much. But yeah make sure you wear a dark thing over it because you don't wanna look like that guy wearing a white tshirt to a swimming pool to hide his moobs because just nah.

Unfortunately, my family isn't going to use male pronouns on me, so I don't bother even trying to hide anything. I just wear a tight black sports bra with my shorts. I'm going to get top surgery next year before summer so I'm just not worrying too much about it this summer (since I hardly swim anyway).

Binder and rash guard sounds like your best bet (that's what I would try if it was worth the effort for me).

Yeah, this is what I did pretty much. Or binder + thick sleeveless shirt combo. Though I find that throughout the day the binder tends to get less and less effective as its worn out so it's best not to swim for more than the recommended time to wear a binder (which is 8 hours I think?).

I really recommend getting a swimming binder. I got mine from underworks. And i love it!! I'm have a fairly large chest (though they are losing size and shape) and even though im not 100% flat in it, i am still confident enough that im not nervous. Plus im a bigger guy, so it kinda just looks like man boobs honestly. It was a super good buy, and i recommend it to everyone. Plus you could always wear a baggy t shirt over it. Happy swimming.
