Hi y'all.
I have a quick question. Do I have to change my name if I want to transition? My real name is actually androgynous or could be a girls name too. In fact, my 3rd grade teacher gave me a yellow folder as opposed to a green one because she thought I was a girl based on the name alone... (scarred for life :P)
Anyway, I like my name and would like to keep it if I can. It is annoying for me to pronounce it but I think it's a keeper!
Not truly,
Maribeth
I don't see any reason why you can't keep it if that is what you choose to do. Hugs
Mariah
I guess if you live in the US you have that possibility. In Europe it's not so simple. For example my country has a list of valid male and female names. Parents can only choose names from those lists when naming their newborn child and if somebody transitions they have to choose a name from the same lists.
I didn't realize there were restrictions so I googled it and you're right. http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-21229475 . I had no idea.
Dori.
There is no requirement to change your name.
While, there is no legal requirement to change your name, if your SRS letter does not specify when you began full-time (RLE), some surgeons will default to the date of your name change.
