"BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A self-identified transgender woman was denied a driver's license at the Baton Rouge Office of Motor Vehicles on Friday after being told she did not suitably look like a man.
"It's such discrimination that you just feel powerless," Alexandra Glover said.
Born a boy named Dylan, Glover's birth certificate says she is a male. While at the OMV, Glover wore makeup and a dress, which was a red flag for the clerk."
If someone were denied a license because they were Black or Latino, there would be pickets outside. Us? We release a statement.
People like that need to be afraid of us - afraid of the bad publicity we could generate. Instead, we're the ones who are afraid.
That's the very reason I couldn't update my license before surgery and had to carry a passing letter should I be stopped. Had I not had the passing letter, I could have been hauled off to jail where I might have had to remove all my makeup and pull my hair back so I look somewhat male. It was one of the many surprises I found on Susan's that a license could be changes at the start of transitioning instead of after SRS. It appears however that the old standards still exist in some areas of the country.
So terrible that this can happen :(
First amendment rights violation.
Louisiana has some weird laws.
