Church Bars Transgender Woman From Attending Retreats.

CBS News Denver

The woman says she just wants to practice her faith with everyone else.

The woman in question is an old friend of mine.  The letter that her pastor wrote to her was published online.  It's an eye-opening letter, but Trigger Warning, it's full of transphobic language.

"A transgender woman from Boulder alleges that Jim Burgen, lead pastor at the evangelical Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette, has barred her from women's events at the church because she lives in a "broken body" that was "betrayed" by sin.

Melissa Chapman, 43, claims Burgen penned a letter to her earlier this month citing scripture that likens her situation to that of a "eunuch.""

The good news is there are hundreds of churches and no one is forced to attend a transphobic one.

Very true, Suzi.  It's an issue because she had been a parishioner for over 3 years without a problem.  Now they've changed their mind and tell her she is a man and should be living as a man.  I do know she has been welcomed into several area churches.

Given that it's a church I can't say that I'm all that surprised. Many religious fundamentalists tend to be quite conservative and, if our politicians are any indication, still hold some pretty antiquated ideas for modern society.

There are those church "hate watch" lists I came across.  I would think a church would rather not be associated on such a list, so they would try to do better.  You could tell them this form of discrimination is not tolerated and they will be put on this list?

Pm me if you can't find these lists.  I was trying to find the lgbt center in El paso Texas yesterday and kept running into hate group ads and churches on this list:(  very scarry stuff, but I've yet to see anything bad in person.  Either they are only brave online or I'm just to scarry to confront;) But, I only deal with the va and veterans places down there anyway and doubt I will see any issues there:)
