Title: What can i drink besides tea and soda???
Post by: jessigurl on September 10, 2015, 11:08:19 PM
Ok i have always drank tea and sodas with meals most of the time. I drink ALOT of water, i mean i drink at minimum three 1 liters a day. I am trying to replace my soda and tea consumption though.

I am on HRT (Spiro included) and i am trying to avoid things high in potassium. I normally like drinking V8 vegetable juice but tomatoes are super high in potassium, i also like cranberry juice but i recently found out it is also high in potassium.

Sports drinks give me a stomach ache, i don't care for grape juice, and i just recently found out (the hard way) apple juice gives me gas and diarrhea. I read the that grapefruit juice interferes with the estrogen's in HRT.

I also don't drink diet drinks because they taste awful and they contain aspartame (google it).

I have some orange juice but that's not really good with a meal outside of breakfast.

So what else is out there to replace my tea and sodas with?

I'd go for no added sugar cordials. They, at least in Australia, contain artificial sweeteners but aren't as sweet as a soda or added sugar cordials.

But regarding aspartame: "The weight of existing scientific evidence indicates that aspartame is safe at current levels of consumption as a non-nutritive sweetener."

I drink green tea which is best when it's made just strong enough to lightly colour the hot water.  I don't drink soda as I don't tolerate sugar very well and anything with an artificial sweetener in it tastes too much like drinking somebody's chemistry experiment for me to even think about.
I find tonic water good, - though it has to be real tonic water and not a fake cheap soda copy which is just plain disgusting.

I had similar problem as someone who eats large amounts of fresh fruits and veggies.  Most are high in potassium.  I switched to injectable medroxyprogesterone.  While it has a bad rep here, my investigations reveal a only a small uptick in problems in the first year of use.  Balancing the good and the bad makes it a good choice for me.  I have felt much better since switching over and my testosterone has dropped to the lowest levels.

I dropped soda, but I still drink unsweetened tea.  That seems to work for, but I still drink a ton of water.

Although I still drink soda and coffee, I do like rooibos tea, can also be called 'reddish tea'. No caffeine. It is also makes a good ice tea.

I know that I need to drink more water. After my tennis lesson yesterday when I felt so light headed that I had to stop a few times, I know that hydration needs to have a higher priority for me. Besides, drinking water before each meal is also supposed to help with weight loss.

Please be aware that this is not a natural ingredient and its a big market.
If you look it up you will find studies which tell different.

Stevia might be an alternative.

Or honey, maybe even organic.
Honey has a lot of beneficial ingredients.

Well.. why not stil using some tea ? Thee are many varieties, and herbs... I'd simply avoid black tea...

Water infused with different fruits is good. I like doing strawberries, lemons, or kiwis.

I love sparkling water, but usually just drink water, tea, coffee or the occasional diet coke. Fruit juices aren't very good for you because they have a boatload of sugar without any of the dietary fiber to make it nutritious. And sugared sodas have enough high fructose corn syrup to effect your insulin response with one can, although there is compelling evidence that artificial sweeteners can have a similar effect among others.

There really aren't any substitutes for water though.

Well making fruit smoothies yourself can be an alternative...
or peeling fruit and making slides of it and putting it into water...

true, infusions and purees are very good for you, especially if you mix in some vegetables.

Is your potassium levels actually high? If not then do you really need to worry much about drinks that have potassium in them? I know Spiro means you retain a bit more potassium, but unless your levels are high I reckon you don't need to worry about it. Drink what you like :)

I have soda once a week, and fresh orange juice a few times a week. Everything else is water.

A liter is roughly 34 ounces. You're fine to drink your body weight in ounces of water. Half your body weight in ounces is what my doctor recommends for people who are making the switch over.

Toss some fruit in and let it infuse in the fridge overnight for different flavor if you need it. Citrus fruits, berries, cucumbers - all good.

Well there is phytoestrogen in soy... if on hrt it could compete with estro for estro receptors, making for a weaker effect than estro there...
small amounts should be ok but I'd avoid large amounts....

hugs

La Croix is awesome. Made me cut out soda instantly and no added sugars, no cals. Lots of flavors too

There is always almond milk or cashew milk, anything made of nuts.
