I won't disclose my (current) name on here, but if you know the name of the rifle in Full Metal Jacket, then you know my name. This movie actually came out the year I was born and my name was directly inspired by it.
Now I wonder if my parents ever realized the irony of this name, and particularly, the irony of my first and second names combined. The names together mean "man (or manly person) who courageously handles a spear".
I was born female and that's what they called me. Man with spear. ;D ;D ;D
It's hilarious. I almost feel bad that I'm gonna have to shed the name, it's too feminine, regardless of its awesome meaning.

There are sometimes really nice stories showing some subconscious knowledge.
Maybe there are synonymous ones.
Wish you luck in choosing a name you feel that fits you.
You might look up some comments on urbandictionary and ignore mean comments... some meanings might attract you.
My mom and dad couldn't agree on a name for me before I was born. Dad was pushing for 'Amanda', but Mom hated that potential name for me. It eventually came down to my older sister who picked 'Kelly'.
Of course, during Middle School I started to hate the name, and when I decided to transition just last year, I picked 'Kyle'. So it's basically my old name with some letters rearranged, but I like it better.
how about dropping your middle name and going with a hypenated middle that is your old first and middle names? lots of guys have less masculine middle names and you could keep that fantastic meaning and still get a new first one..mabye Richard...so you could be...:-P

Actually, I do have a pretty amusing name story. My mom's best friend had a child less than a year before I was born. Now, apparently, my mother was pretty steamed because said baby ended up with the name that she'd always wanted to give her firstborn -- my birth name, Leila. So there were two of us.
I chose Cameron because I wanted a name that worked for me as an Iranian-American living in Ireland. "Kamran" is a popular, traditional Iranian boy's name, and Cameron is the anglicised equivalent. Here's the funny part: that other Leila? Well, she has a brother less than one year younger than I am. I'll give you one guess as to his name...
It was an accident, btw! I just met the boy last year. Still, I'm a little glad I get to perpetuate the cycle of name stealing. >:-)
It's interesting, the subconscious knowledge idea. Since they got the inspiration for my name from a rifle anyway, I always kind of questioned whether they didn't already know I was more masculine. But I really like the name so I guess in that sense I've always been lucky.
I will drop my middle name (it's a Germanic name used only for women), the one that means to handle a spear with courage. I absolutely hate the sound of it anyway - I was only named it because it's my grandma's name. But I haven't found a similar substitute as of yet.

I went with Rowan. I like it a lot.
I actually think it would be cool if my new name were a sort of opposite of the old one. By which I mean this: my old name was specifically only used for females but it meant manly and referred to warrior (the spear).
Rowan can be a male name but it doesn't have to be, and also it doesn't directly refer to any "macho" manliness, not directly anyway. I like that about it, the meaning is more easy-going and can also refer to the rowan tree.
I'm cool with dudes who have feminine traits and I would like to be exactly that (I am probably already that). So maybe if I chose a new middle name, I'd like it to reflect something like that :)
