Title: How overweight is too overweight to start T?
Post by: Lucas_Sama on September 14, 2015, 12:16:35 PM
My therapist told me there might be an issue with my weight I have been working to lose weight, but it isn't easy.
She said that I might not be able to start T if I am too overweight.
Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

Hi Lucas,

It really varies based on provider preference. There is no set in stone rule about it, though I have heard of people being made to wait until they had lost weight. T is tough on your body in a lot of ways (especially your heart), so many providers want you to go into the process as healthy as possible. Most surgeons also prefer that you have an average BMI before they will agree to operate on you. Fortunately T also makes it easier to lose weight.

Your therapist is likely just doing their due diligence in letting you know in advance so that you won't be disappointed if that's what you find out. If you have an HRT provider in mind already, you could probably call them and find out what their feelings on it are.

I'm fairly overweight
(BMI of about 29) and I didn't have an issue, my Endo didn't even mention my weight!
I'm sure it depends on your doctor so it may be possible your Endo will tell you to lose weight first

I hadn't even heard of weight ever being an issue with T

Edit:
Oh! And what the above user said about T!
It does make it easier to lose weight so look forward to that! Though personally for the first like two or three weeks I just go like ridiculously hungry and gorged myself haha
I also had a lot more energy so it balances out :P
