Title: HRT Update - neck and shoulders
Post by: April_TO on September 21, 2015, 10:29:24 PM
Hi All :)

Hope everyone is doing well.

I'm just here to get some feedback from the community. After passing my one year mark on HRT - I really noticed a huge difference with the way my body looks especially around the shoulder and neck area. I feel like my neck has shrunk so much and my shoulders have lowered significantly. Did anyone experience such a change?

I have gained about 15 lbs after HRT. However, even if I am not a skinny girl. I believe that gaining extra bit of fat is truly feminizing.

Thanks again for the feedback.

April

Awesome, April!  I've noticed the same thing happening with me.  My shoulder width has shrunk by almost 4" and my neck has shrunk by 3.5" as well.  Really, at this point, the only things that are on the large side for me are my trapezius and pectoral muscles that are leftover from extensive weight training.  When I go running though, I see plenty of other women with the same thing so I consider myself in the female range.  It's just a matter of not wanting to look that way from a normal body image standpoint as opposed to anything dysphoric.  When I started, I honestly never thought I would ever be at this point, where I am happy with my shoulder and neck size.

I used to have this bad habit of putting my elbow on the window sill while driving.  The other day, I realized I wasn't doing that anymore.  I tried to replicate that position just for fun, but I couldn't do it; my elbow was missing the sill by about 2 inches!  When I started on Susan's, I read a lot of posts that said that shoulder width doesn't change on HRT and that made me really sad.  I'm glad you made this post, April, because new transitioners should know that it is possible and that there is no need to feel the way I did.

Between the end of July and the end of August I lost an inch from my neck and shirts that were very tight now slip over my shoulders with ease. When I realized that I could easily do the top button on a shirt I was thrilled. I had always hated my neck, now I hardly notice the hideous lump in the middle. Almost.

My hands got smaller too. I can now wear the small gloves with ease at work. The biggest sign was that the tattoo on my forefinger apeared to be bigger one day. It was taking up more space. I have checked old photos and found that it was not in my head.

I sure hope this keeps going and I get results comparable to y'all's. I have been in a bit of a lull development wise lately. From what I understand that should all change soon. (My nips just got bigger)

Anyway, it is amazing when you realize how much space muscle etc. takes up,

That's amazing - I know it could be misleading sometimes since you don't feel that nothing is happening. I must tell you - you'll just realize one of these days that you don't even recognize the person looking at you :)

My neck is now 14.5 inches from 17 inches and my shirts that were wrist length can now go mid palm. My fall jacket from last year the arm length is at lower palm.

Yeah, thank you for this post. You're also giving me hope about my lumberjack arms.

Thats so cool April!

I went to the doctors today and he did say I could expect a 30% decrease in muscle mass.  He also said he had knew of people that put on much more weight than that - like 30kg.

I am concerned by my shoulders and I have a masculine neck too but your words are so encouraging!

Hey the doctor said the hair on top of my head would not grow back,  I hope he is wrong about that because Ive seen some amazing results on this forum.

Anyway is great to see you looking so well!

:)

I was told my hair would not come back either but it seems that so long as you still have baby hairs then they may return to life. Slowly but surely my thin and bald areas are filling in. I have also met women who transitioned in their late 30's like I am doing. They told me they had lost as much hair as I had but most of it came back. You won't get it all but there really is hope.i am quite happy with what I have now.

Also, noticed this morning that my pectoral muscles have faded a bit. My girls are now technically smaller but they have a fuller shape!
