"America's transgender community experiences some of the highest rates of discrimination, violence, and poverty in the country. So how has Fox News managed to portray this marginalized and vulnerable community as threatening, greedy, and deserving of mistreatment?
Despite the progress that's been made in the fight for transgender equality and visibility, transgender people continue to face astronomical rates of harassment and discrimination at work, in school, in public places, and even from law enforcement. Trans people are often refused medical care, fired from their jobs, denied housing, and even evicted from their homes because of their gender identity."

The opinion outside the US here in the countries of the former British Commonwealth is that Fox News is a joke that nobody in their right mind could ever take seriously for one moment.

the opinion of people within the borders of the continental United States should seriously question their purpose in life if they believe FOX News is a credible source of information.
Faux News to those with a functioning brain. They just pander to their audience, the religious right reveling in in their persecution fantasies.

The saddest part is fox news has a devoted following, mostly of ultra concervitive, wealthy, white men. AKA the people who wield staggeringly unbalanced power in the country. People who like to belive that all minorities are criminals, all LGB folk are corrupt deviants trying to destroy there way of life, all Transgender indviduals are monsters and mentally unstable (Plus criminals, dangerous drug users, and all the LGB stuff too), and that poor people are all lazy, greedy whiners who need to pull themselves up by there bootstraps and work hard to get ahead. Ohh they also think drug addicts and people with mental or emotional problems are criminals who should be locked up in general prison population until they get better. Because we all know nothing will help a depressed, poverty striken transgender lesbian with sever anxiety issues who smokes pot to help relax and avoid there problems for a bit quite like locking there feminized body up in a prison full of men for a few years.
I thought Fox news was a malicious TV soap. In Asian we can't believe that Americans seriously consider this as news. BUT, I know my 2nd wife's family, who father is a Marine Corp Col, are avid Fox news fans.....mmmm. I hope not all US military thing that way
Well, not much new here, but it's a nice analysis of F*x News's specific tactics.
I was surprised to hear that ONLY seventy percent of trans people have experienced bathroom harassment.
In all honesty I'm conservative but I can't support any political party or institution who's core philosophy is openly bigotted and hostile toward me.

It certainly sounds like one
I have never taken FOX News seriously, I think they are a joke to be honest. I always thought that news was supposed t be unbiased but they are not but the same can be said about the other news networks but they are so biased that its sick and they keep going back and forth between each other. I just don't care how they view anyone and if you want to lose millions of brain cells at one time just watch anything on Faux News!
Faux news isn't about news anyway. It's an opinion oriented entertainment show targeted at their audience. I know this for a fact because I was once personally involved in an incident that was on the news for weeks afterwards. What they were saying and what I knew first hand to be factual were miles apart.
That was the beginning of the end for my TV news watching days.

Horrendous! He did this here, he'd be fired and sued.
Fox news is a joke. Only brainwashed people with their heads in the sand watch it. I think that it should be taken off the air. We need truth not political lies.

Same thing in Canada, Fox News is seen as inaccurate, non researched idiots

A lot of people feel that way here. The problem is that it's socially acceptable here to hold those kinds of opinions so people can watch it and believe it. In pockets there are so many people like that that they self-reinforce.
I don't remember there being this incredible demonetization of the other side before Fox showed up. Maybe there was, but I hear a visceral hatred of those who are different from those who watch Fox now. There is also an incredible victim hood portrayed on Fox. It is sold as the actual victims of something are really repressing you, our audience. I watch it sometimes until I just can't any more. It is so dishonest. Even the name is deceptive. If it were "Fox Political Opinions" then that would be honest. My opinion is that it is just an extension of the campaign that the cigarette companies used to deceive us into thinking smoking didn't cause cancer. They lied because it was making them money. I think the way they treat trans issues doesn't bring them monetary gain directly, but it stokes the hatred and solidifies the victim hood. When I grew up, the communists were the enemy. Now they have moved on to our own people being the enemy. It is a poisonous attitude for our country.
Moni
Sadly, it seems that all news stations have polarized their views. I used to be a fan of CNN but today I see a station that feels it's judge and jury on the morality of USA and like FOX bitterly and hatefully pursue those that are not aligned with their views. Is there an unbiased news channel to watch today?
In all frankness, the actual "hard" news reporting on Fox really isn't that bad. Where things go completely off the rails is in all the sensationalized, basically editorial programs they use to fill up most of the 24 hour news cycle.
To get actual news i visit both domestic and foreign news sites. it is amazing to see the difference. Anyway, i believe the information that matches.
Fox is consumed because people want it, and it shows the tremendous divide between social viewpoints and values in our society. They were the only "news" channel that successfully defended their product to the FCC as "entertainment" so they would not have to tell the truth.
Entertainment ...yeah they are a laugh a minute <sarcasm>
Reminds me about a propaganda story i read recently, about Germans in WW2 still flocking to the theaters as the world was crumbling around the third reich. Cities are bombed level, millions dead on both sides and they still loved their "official newsreels" because it told them what they wanted to hear. Everything was ok...the bad people on the other side were responsible for all the trouble and uncle Adolf was about to save the day.
So if Murdoch had not created Fox someone else would have. Look at the Newsmax channel and site some time if you want another view into their world. Simply supply filling demand.
yea, supply and demand, educational vs entertainment, a magnificent technology properly utilized or foolishly wasted.

There was some of that no doubt, but also remember the popular German phrase at the time, "Enjoy the war. The peace is going to be terrible." The reality the Germans were motivated to avoid was so much worse than anything Americans have to worry about that I'm not really sure bringing Godwin's Law down on yourself is even productive here.

Newsmax is pretty...different. Then there's Breitbart, and that's without even mentioning Glenn Beck or the Rush Limbaugh/Mark Levin/Sean Hannity radio cash cow.
Also, it's probably worth keeping in mind that Fox does absolutely own the cable TV ratings game. I'm actually fairly convinced ratings generally have nothing to do with quality at this point, but Fox owning that market is really about demographics. How many young liberals do you know who get their news from TV? For that matter, how many young conservatives? Cable TV news is an old person's game now the way newspapers were a couple of decades ago, and older people skew conservative. Now, assuming for the sake of argument that old people continue to skew conservative, in another decade or two they'll get their conservative news from obsolescent technology like the internet or something after TV has joined the newspaper in oblivion.

I think that is a really good point and one that is not talked about. Fox is driven my your "Uncle George" that has been dragged kicking and screaming into social media. TV itself is in some trouble. Demographics are against it and the audience of Fox News.
The problem with Fox news or any other media group, for that matter, is that they alter, deflate, inflate, lie, etc. to get more attention to their story. The end result, more money for them. They only care about what sells, not what hurt they put on people. The LGBT community has the same rights as anyone but there are those that don't see it that way. It will always be like that. Bigots are a dime a dozen and the world would be better without them. We must stay strong and united and fight for the rights that our ours!
sensationalism is used to describe the US news media
I don't think there is a single quality unbiased news outlet in the US. At least nothing comparable to CBC, BBC or the German Public TV.
Aside from the fact that the majority of the time US News is "soft" news (if you can even call that news) each one has some level of agenda. Be it more to the left or the right.
In many cases you get better balanced news about the US from foreign news sources than what you can get here.
At least the newspapers in the US are still doing a decent job in long form reporting with background analysis. Still - to get a balanced view multiple sources would be necessary. I have certainly given up on TV News :-(
End of rant...

I pretty much agree with this. This is why i choose the BBC as a source often. Our news is all about clicks and paydays from advertisers. I'm a pretty big fan of NPR as well.
