So I'm new here and I've never posted anything before and I'm not really sure how much info is too much info D: but, I'm 22 and I've been taking hormones as prescribed by my doctor for 5 weeks as of today. It's amazing and I can't even describe how great I feel since I started HRT. But holy cow do I have to pee all the time now, for the last week or two I've had to go to the restroom like 8-10 times a day. Is this normal?
It most certainly is Sarah :D
When you start HRT your whole metabolism gets reset and will take a little while before everything settles down again into its new configuration.
When I started I wondered where all this pee was coming from. I wondered if I could single handedly solve the drought problems of a small African country I seemed to be generating so much. Then after a bit things began to return to a more normal state of affairs to my great relief.
What a relief :D I can't seem to drink enough water to keep up!! I was starting to wonder if I was going to dry up :P
I have been on HRT for 17 days and yes it is amazing and yes seems like every 20 minutes i have to pee..

there are times when I'll go to the bathroom, go back to my room and already I'll need to pee again -_-
You are on Spirolactone? That is a diuretic.. Google it for more info if that is the culprit.. when you have srs or an orchectomy, you will not need this med, so that issue will be better:)
If you are not on Spirolactone or a diuretic, then you may want to check your bloodsugar with a glucose meter a few times in a day to make sure it's normal.. it's rare, but can raise your bs.. my bet is on the diuretic though..
like Ms Smith said, it will settle down as your tolerance builds.. but that's the time an endo should check your levels and adjust if needed.. but it's all normal, enjoy;)

I am taking spiro. and I do need to go see an endocrinologist. :p works had me so burned out I haven't been able to bring myself to make an appointment since seeing my doctor to get prescribed HRT, I've just been kinda goin with the dose he started me at. I guess its probably important that I get those tests taken soon though.
I spend half of my day in the bathroom :embarrassed:
Yep, it's normal. Don't worry though, eventually having to pee every 40 minutes will just become part of your daily routine and you won't even give it a second thought.

Happens to me all the time. I always wonder where that second batch came from since I just went 10 seconds ago??
On spiro you have to stay hydrated (I get bad foot cramps if I don't), and if you stay hydrated you'll wear a path to the bathroom. Since you'll be peeing so much you'll be peeing out a lot of salt so keep that salt shaker handy.

Oh my God. I take medication for adhd which already makes me thirsty and have to pee a lot. Started sipro and estrogen on monday, and I pretty much have to pee every hour. It's normal.
Just be careful about electrolytes, you need them. I've heard that salty things, including pickles, are great. Also be careful about not getting too much potassium something about peeing a lot causing that to increase.
[edit] oh yeah, the good thing about being in the bathroom all the time is you get to check out your boobs. I don't know if mine are sore because they're starting to develop, or because I keep touching them to see if they're sore yet!

I didn't even think about all the salt that I was losing!! D: I'll have to keep that in mind :P

I drink plenty of Gatorade throughout the day, so I should be pretty covered electrolyte wise :)
And yeah, I probably spend a half hour a day total just looking at my chest XD and I can't even describe how sore my nipples are! touching them is the last thing I want to do right now :P Its definitely going to take some getting used to!
Salt is fine BUT watch out for potassium, don't take too much as Spiro increases potassium retention.
Yep same happened to me. seemed for a while that as soon as i sat down i needed to go again. It does settle down somewhat though when your body gets used to it.
Spiro will do that and I noticed that early on it really increased the amount of bathroom time I have. Hugs

Bullion cubes if you start to get light headed or headaches. Magnesium supplement if you cramp. :)

Magnesium, I could have used that 5 days ago!

Between the spiro and coffee, I just never stop peeing. I'm trying to figure out a way to outfit my bike with a waterwheel.
I eat a low carb diet, so in always peeing and keeping magnesium on hand!

It is most likely spironolactone, based on what others have said. On cyproterone acetate (Androcur) I use the bathroom once upon waking up and then once or twice before going to bed.

This is a great piece of info as I meet with my Endo to start HRT tommorrow I'll definately ask about the options available.
Thanks for sharing, Hugs :)
