Title: Bioidentical hormones
Post by: TashaL on September 27, 2015, 06:47:13 PM
Hey there,

I was wondering if there are others taking rx bioidentical hormones for hrt. I can't help but feel they're not working. My labs keep coming back low E levels and moderate t levels.

Is anyone here on bioidentical hormones? Are they working for your feminization? I'm already on high doses, why would it be bad to move towards traditional hrt with lower doses?

Mod edit: no dosages please.

Due to possible misuse you might edit exact dosages.

Well people are different.
With increased spiro testo is supposed to go down.
Bioidentical is usually much better, with less side effects.
Yet people are different.
Its possible intake through the skin is not as much as with other people.
It might be possible to switch to implants or weekly injections.

I like your name by the way.

hugs

Thank you. I never thought that maybe it's an absorption issue. The state I am in is not friendly to trans, and my doc primarily deals with cis hrt. So she may just not be the best to go to. There just is no other option besides her for trans bioidentical hrt.

Hey Tasha

Welcome to Susan's  :)  Great to have you here - looking forward to seeing you around the forum.

I'm on bioidentical E (implant) and it is working well. We can't give you specific medical advice here. Unfortunately, some people react better to certain HRT combos than others. You should talk directly with your doctor or endocrinologist (or maybe seek out a second medical opinion) to find what drugs, combo and delivery method are most appropriate and safest for you. There may be other reasons your E is still low that are unrelated to the HRT.

Please check out the following links for site rules, helpful tips and other info...

Cheers

Grace

My doc hasn't even given me the option for an implant. I have an appointment with a second doc this week. Gonna ask a ton of questions

Thank you once again!

I'm on bioidentical HRT - estrogen implants, micronized progesterone (Microgest), and spiro. It's working well.

Before that I was on patches and sometimes gel. Patches didn't work at all well, and my endo told me that not everyone absorbs estrogen well though the skin. Its the first time I'd heard of that, which goes to show the reason why we visit a decent doctor.

It appears that not many doctors do implants these days, but as far as I know they are by far the best way of getting estrogen. There's been a number of posts about them in the forums.

I'm hoping this new doctor knows something about them. I've been reading for an hour or so now about estrogen absorption and there is clear evidence through research it is not the best way. Simply better than having to metabolize through the liver, which it is. However shots are a much better method, and now I'm trying to find information on implants and transgender.

Looks like I'll at least be requesting a switch to shots, hopefully not though cause I have to bike to get around and it will be a hassle to get to the doc every week.

If anyone has links to reliable research regarding hormone implants please share them.

The doctor will train you how to do you own injections. No need to visit them ever week.

I wish they had implants at the clinic I go to. Which reminds me, I need an appointment and labs to go back in for my 6 mo. Checkup.

I'm afraid of needles. But I want this so much more it may be the thing that pushes me to overcome my fear.

I'm afraid of needles too. I have to lie down whenever I get a blood test as I get really dizzy and don't want to feint. Not so far to fall when you're already horizontal (and lying down stops me getting dizzy in the first place).

That's a big reason I like implants. One "injection" once or twice a year, and the Dr does them rather than me. I don't even have look. Actually its best not to look because its the largest needle I've ever made the mistake of looking at.

I get a local anesthetic in a standard small syringe, followed by the implant which I can't feel at all. Its great.

Well usually its a small incision... and they usually use a cannula and a trocar...

You're braver than me if you watch. I've only ever seen the end result a week later.

You can look it up in a catalogue... thats where I saw it... some compounding pharmacies even have dvds for training...

and concerning watching it sometimes would take the neck of a bird... being able to make weird movements  :)

I'm not sure I want know any more. I looked at the trocar by mistake and that's enough. I still can't forget it.

Imagine it getting smaller and smaller... look at the final small picture and memorize it that way...
that should help  :)
