Title: My introduction and how I got HERE
Post by: Jaynatopia on September 17, 2007, 11:56:36 AM
Hello guys and gals,

My name is Jayna and I have been most lurking for a month or so until I felt I would stick around. I am almost 16 months into transition now and went full time at the end of January. I am still on the same job and it seems to be working pretty well. In some ways, since it is mostly male dominated as an industry (I am a 3d artist modeler and animator that works in video game development), it is a bit of status loss. I was recently told I would not be leading our next big project which brought about a lot of negative feelings at first (that I got over after a few weeks).

Family and friends all adapted well to the transition. So well that it made me wonder why I was so scared to tell them in the first place. Honestly, if I knew it was going to be that easy I would have done it long ago. Life is going fantastic and I am involved with a gorgeous gal that I met through a transgender organization in local Sacramento, we have been together about 9 months now and are already scheming on how we can legally marry. I am assuming one of us can legally change gender after SRS, get married, and then the other changes... hopefully that can be a loop hole for us or we will get a domestic partnership (since we are in California).

My partner and I do a podcast on transgender issues and transition in general. Oh... and the how I got here. One of our local friends is a moderator and mentioned this resource so we thought we would join up and give our support to our brothers and sisters here and maybe make new friends in our network.

Welcome Jayne!
I'm also from California, southern Cal though. Welcome to Susan's :) Obviously if you've been lurking for a month and decided to stay you know what a great community we have here. The forums are excellent, chat is excellent and the Wiki, well, it's excellent too :) The people are what make this place as I'm sure you've already seen. By the way, what is the name of your podcast, I'd like to listen to it, Meghan

Hi Jayna, good to see you on here :)

Hi Dennis! It is fantastic to see you online as well. I had a great time meeting you and hanging out during your trip through our neck of the woods. I learned my limits that night as well; Karen can attest to the fact that I drank only diet soda this last weekend!

Hi Jaynatopia

Welcome to Susan's and I do pray that you find much of what interests you here.

Me, I guess I'm a  just an old hippie who is a drifter of the cyberwaves.
I am 7 years full time and had the surgery 4 years ago. Left Susan's six years ago and just returned about three weeks ago when I ran across the link for the forums.

Have a wonderful evening

Cindy

Hi, Jayna (and Mila  ;) ;D )

Sorry it took so long -- I currently lack access to internet on weekdays (I'm working on a fix, though.)

You got to know one admin F2F (uh, that's Face to Face, y'all  ;) :D ), and I encourage you to get to know the other cyber-members here.

To Susan's members -- I vouch for Jayna.  She's level-headed and activist-oriented, and I think that she'll make a fine member of Susans.

And for the record it was Karen and Johanna standing in front of Homeland Security against the Read ID act that inspired Mila (Genopunk) and I to be more activist-oriented.  ;D

Hi, Jayna,

Welcome!  It sounds like you have a lot to offer everyone and I thank you for sharing it.

QuoteI am still on the same job and it seems to be working pretty well. As for things on the job, I suggest that you get a copy of "Back Off!" by Martha Langelan.  IMHO, it is a wonderful handbook on how to spot and handle gender and sexual harassment on the street and in the office.  We might see a lot but there is so much that we don't realize is harassment and discrimination that we don't act on it.

I wish you continued pleasure in being yourself.

Hi Jayne, thanks for the intro and welcome to Susan's.  You're lucky to have the support of friends and family...many girls are not as fortunate.  Sorry you didn't get to lead that project at work, hopefully you'll get to lead the next one.  Wish you and your partner all the best.  Hope to meet you in chat some day :)

Hugs & kisses

Thanks Monika. I agree the friends and family support is very very fortunate.. It is all something we risk in coming out.

Well the project is canceled so it is moot now. But the loss of title effectively put me beneath the glass ceiling. Few women get to be lead animator it seems so my chances of regaining the position there or another company seems slim. Something I will have to get used to.... being considered "less competent". Anyhow I am more or less over it.  :-\

Hi Jayna. Glad you decided to stick around. Lots of really nice people. I've come crawling  back here more than once.

There is a book you may want to check out. Its call "Nice girls never gets the corner office".

Hi Jayna , :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 2230 strong.  That would be one heck of a family reunion.
Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers.  Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now.  And it is always nice to have another sister. :icon_hug:
