Title: Hot Flashes while ON hormones?
Post by: Blush on October 06, 2015, 11:40:07 PM
Has anyone had/heard of hot flashes even while ON hormones (MtF)? I've been having super bad hot flashses seemingly randomly. They occur around every half hour, last for a few minutes, and are a completely night/day temperature difference. I go from sitting in a cold room with the heat and a sweatshirt on, to "getting a flash" and needing to take almost everything off and turn the air conditioning on...

I'm post op, but still somewhat unsure of my levels at the moment.

I have an appointment scheduled with my physician but I wanted to if anyone had experiences in hot flashes even while on hormones?

I experienced hot flashes pre-op almost all the time as my body was acclimatising to the new hormones.  I fluctuated from heavy sweating to dry cold.  I would sometimes complain about the heat though the temperature (whether indoors or outdoors) was fine.  I recall no other symptoms that bothered me.  I took the sweating in stride as a real-life female experience, neither enjoying them nor dreading them but as acceptance that I was progressing through transition.

I occasionally experience lighter hot flashes post-op; certainly not the extreme symptoms of pre-op heavy sweating but more of a glow or heat and somewhat satisfying that the ERT is still kicking in when they eased.

Nowadays I'm mostly more cold than anything else - females tend to have cold skin and I'm there with this female experience.

My endo schedules me for appointments and blood draws every six months.  We discuss how well I'm doing and any complications as well as any estrogen fluctuations - higher or lower.

Discuss your experiences with your physician - including adjusting your dose according to your blood levels.

Maybe time will be a better cure.

Im a little over 6 months on HRT and the hot flashes are frequent. I just assume it comes with the territory ☺️

I got them when I first started HRT, normally when I lay down but as I've adjusted they have gone away. They may very well come back when my dose gets upped however :P

There are others who reported this...
it sounds like menopausal symptoms... either t high or e low...
one explanation might be oral/sublingual intake of estrogen only once or twice a day...
it might be possible to spread the daily dose in for example four smaller doses to avoid larger peaks and lows...

possibly same for the anti androgen...
like taking the daily spiro dose in for small parts instead of one big one...
spiro does not need to be taken sublingually  :)

for more steady doses a part of it as patches or gel might be an option...
or weekly injections or implants....

as others have mentioned  just talk it through with your doctor/endo...

doesn't sound normal to me. It sounds like you need to talk to your endo.

I agree. 18 months full strength with Progesterone and no hot flashes at all. Levels sound off to me.

I've been on a transitioning dose of HRT for about 2 years now. Recently these hot flashes started for me. I'm seeing my endo this week and i'm definitely going to mention it to him - I think it's it's hormonal (ie like menopause) which means something is not right with my current dosages.

If you are experiencing hot flashes please go talk to your doctor.

During my first transition I had regular hot flashes. Even in the middle of winter I could be sweating from just a little effort.

That normalised somewhat when I went off HRT. This time around I had some sweating issues in the first couple of months but they seem to have stopped now, unless of course I'm doing strong physical activity or in the middle of a heat wave.

I'd suggest you chat with your endo about your levels.

Hot flashes is a sign of too low estrogen or testosterone. Progesterone also raises body temperature so can make you feel warmer.
