Title: Epilator HURTS....
Post by: abd789 on October 08, 2015, 04:18:03 AM
Yes, I wanted the cadilac, the silk epil 9... but chose the budget remington 7010 for a hundred less...

I debated over wether more money spent could equal less pain felt... but that didnt really make sense

its still ripping hairs out either way

Im about to give up

took a hot shower, popped a 800 ibuprofen... still hurts like hell

I don't like them. I was given one but only used it once to try it out. Terrible idea.

It takes a while to get used to it, it hurts alot at the start but after a few goes it should hurt less since your getting used to it. Remember to pull the skin tight. I always make sure that my hair is around a millimeter or 2 before i epilate, takes longer to do since I imagine the epilator is not grabbing all the hairs easily but it will be less pain, I rather more time used than the pain caused by it.

Keep at it. The painful part doesn't last long, and after that its nothing. It tickles more than anything.

People say the pain is far worse than SRS. I'd certainly hope so.

I couldn't do it all in one go, so I'd always go over the bit I'd already done which is easy then do a little more new parts each time. I got there eventually. Just don't do you facial hair or you'll discover a whole new world of pain.

Once a hair is pulled out, it takes a long time for it to regain a strong, deep foothold.  It isn't that you get used to the pain so much as the hair becomes easier to pull out.  Go slow at first.  If you can stand to pluck a hair, you can get through that first epilation by going very gradually a few hairs at a time.  Don't give up, honey.

I would almost agree.. but I do a lot less damage than when I was scrapping it with a Razor every day.. They sell a facial epilator Which works on the mustache really well.. but it didn't make it any easier to get used to it..

I ordered an epilator last week and it arrived today. Took it out the box, gave it a try and I have to say it didn't hurt as much as I feared. Still painful, and my arms were red for an hour or so.

Mind you I've used a Tria home laser on my face at the highest setting, so I'm very familiar with what pain can be :D

I'm still with you in hoping it gets easier because I hate shaving every morning.

Mustache? That's even worse. I can't even begin to understand how you managed that.

Plucking or epilating facial hair is not a good idea whether you can stand the pain or not.  Every electrologist I've talked to thinks it's a bad idea.  Reasons?  Thicker hair, follicle distortion, & in-grown hairs.  I can't say if that true or not.

The type of the epilator does matter when it comes to pain. We used a Philips HP 6402 for 4 years with my girlfriend and after it started acting up we got a Braun Silk Epil 5. The difference between the two is easily noticeable, epilating with the Silk Epil 5 is less painful, but it is twice as expensive. It has some great features that the Philips one didn't have such as LED light, massage, also there is a cooling glove in the package and a little brush for cleaning.

I have a very sensitive skin and at first epilating was unbelievably painful. At first I had to force myself to continue, but now it is not a very big problem and much less painful.

The genius who invented waterboarding clearly never tried an epliator.

When I was still using an epilator I went for the Braun and found it to be really good.  After years on Spiro and being post my orchie op hair growth, or lack of it, reached the point where I didn't have to bother anymore.  My daughter uses my Braun now and it's still going strong so they're pretty darn robust and are worth the money.

True enough it hurts using an epilator at first, but either I became used to the pain or else the hair wasn't so well rooted as it was before because it didn't really bother me that much after a while.

I bought the silk èpil 9. Target had it for $105 plus Amex gave me $30 off so it was a good deal. It's nothing special. Has two speeds and a light. Still hurts like hell and chokes on thicker hairs.

I brought a silk èpil  before I started HRT - mainly for my arms. It seemed ok up until the point where I was a bit careless and managed to somehow jam some lose skin in it...needless to say it has stayed in the cupboard since and luckily the HRT has meant that I only need to shave once or twice a week if at all!

It's been said before, but keep it away from your nipples. Really far far away or your going to regret it.

When I go close I press my tightly fingers on top of the nipper area to make sure the skin can't stretch and get pulled in.

I've been keeping a shaving in the shower ritual for about two months now but funnily enough I've let my leg hair catch up a bit so I could try epilating.....Ouch!

I'm too much of a wuss for epilation so back to shower shaving! Gilette Venus is what I use for my body hair but I use a fine male shaver for face and breast area.

I stopped using my epilator and went back to waxing.

On my face I don't epilate, only laser and electrolysis.

How long does it take for the hairs to regrow using this method?

I'm thinking of trying it out if it's a lot longer than simply shaving. The pain sounds worth the results.

Done properly a few weeks up to 8 weeks.

However many times I can't get it to epilate properly because the hairs are rooted so deep. So it breaks at the top just above the skin. Frustration.

Wax goes a little deeper so it works better for me.

Oh wow that sounds amazing!

Thanks for the info I'll look into getting one. Craving that constant smooth feel.

Once you've got past the first part its easy. I stopped some time ago to keep my wife happy, so I don't recall the times, but it is easy and effective.

Wax a few times first, then epilate. That way the painful part is over quickly.

After using the epilator every two weeks for most part of a year, hardly anything grows anymore on my whole body. It's great :D

I couldn't have afforded to do professional waxing like that.

Waxing first sounds like a good idea. I'm thinking of shaving and then using it a few days after for the first time.

I went with the Braun epil 7 in the end, as it has a lot of good reviews and is discounted by over 60% on Amazon UK right now. (Plus it has a wet option and this is apparently a lot less painful). Just gotta wait for it to arrive!

I hope the original poster of this thread gives it another go though, the results sound absolutely amazing.

Definitely get waxed a few times first, then epilate as the fine hairs start to grow back out. Then you're getting finer hairs with not so deep a root, and not quite so many at once. It will give you the same results with way less pain. I actually like waxing... smooth for a long time, and it feels therapeutic to me. I would never take an epilator to the face... just sounds like a bad plan. I have plenty of scars to mask already... I would hate to risk damaging my face.

I found out that the hair removal ie Electrylosis, epilators has been the worst part of my transition. I tried creams. Some were a waste of money. I might has well put cream on my self & let the cat lock it off. LOL. It took about 6 weeks for the Electrylosis lady to do my arm. Legs took 8 weeks. Torso front 10 weeks. face I had done 1st, since people would see that more. I used an epilator. I trudged thru wether it hurt or not. Finally I was done.  Was so glad!!!!

Well I learned this, the level of device you get does make a difference

First one was a Remington EP7010, 35 dollars at walmart
I returned that and got a Braun Silk-Epil 9,  from Ulta at 140 dollars (same nearly everywhere)

the Braun hurts less, period.... it does hurt on some areas, but nothing like the Remington

Remington I couldnt even get it started on my legs, felt like I was getting zapped by electricity
in a bad way, and it took about 10 passes to clear the spots elsewhere that I tried

The Braun, I did my entire legs and butt in about 15 minutes with only minor discomfort, couple passes was good enough to see huge results.

I have a Philip's epilator. It was rated the best. You can feel it, but it is not that bad. It did quick work on the long hair of my arms. It needs another going over, but considering the long hairs, not bad. One more run through should take care of the rest. Smooth arms. Even though they did get red like they were sunburned.
