hi All
I'm 21 years old, have a job, and live in Melbourne Australia.I want to transition MTF, but i still live at home with my parents. my dad is a councilor and my mum is a training to be one.
i have tried many times to come out to my mum and she always said it was a phase and grow out of it. i want to write a letter telling them i want to change and feel less anxiety and depression. but feel better about my self.
but she will say i don't need to and go see a therapist or Councillor. But for me this feeling of not being in the right body has stuck with me since i was 10 years old. and what to change now.
hope you all can help thanks
Ashley
p.s im happy to catch up with people in Melbourne. and talk :)
First you are old enough to do it on your own. I suggest research, research, research. Show them the facts and new studies and theories about why we are this way and that is has been reclassified and is no longer a mental illness consideration. Academics like your parents should respond best to this approach. If they do not you may have to go it alone. Try with research and if turned down see a therapist by yourself. Good luck. :)

HI all
i just trued to come out to my mum, she thinks i need to see some one, and i said i would but i asked her if i do Transition MTF, she would not cope with it and be in denial.
i am wondering if i should wait until i leave and get my own place ???
but then they would still be in denial about it, i tried to give information to them about GID, Transgender people. but the still would not support me and still be happy to see me.
my family is supper close and I'm the youngest of 2 children, my brother live with his girlfriend and yea i still live at home.
I'm trying to figure all this out, I'm scared and i don't know what to do. my dad is a councilor and his hard on this stuff. but the other issue is if i see a therapist , i don't want to influence his work.
so Hard, I'm all confused and scared. i don' know what to do. :( :(
thanks for letting me blurt this out.
thanks
Ashley
First, have a big *hug*
Know you're not the only one.
Its up to you but here are a few resources that might be shown:

This is a letter from an accepting dad. So its from the view of a parent.
Parts of it might be shown.
Some parents have the same restraints, like he talks about: did they cause it by an upbringing...etc...

There are brochures by reputable sources, for example the british NHS, showing being trans has biological connections.
Its explained with pictures. A brochure says explicitly for trans people, their families and health care staff.
If its biological its nobodys fault... and its not likely to be a phase...
Some people make a comparison with a twin... they will be like their male/female twin, with the same sense of humour...
and you might if you want add something like you would want to see a good gender therapist...
the gender therapist to help you along, maybe with easy reversible steps first, to help you find out how they make you feel...
so that you have someone to guide you and help you along, and no rash but appropriate steps are made.... appropriate also in your favour, so that it moves along...
*hugs*
Here is more about the process in your country:

Just keep asking questions...
