"Bouncing around from Denver to Memphis to Las Vegas, Michael Sumling has struggled with homelessness for many years while trying to get his life in order.

At times, being transgender made his options for finding shelter difficult.

But since being at The Salvation Army, he is hoping to get back on his feet.

"The Salvation Army has shown nothing but love for me," Sumling says."

Is *Michael* the name *he* prefers to use? Don't know. Any hint of how he identifies seems to have been scrubbed.

Any thoughts that I could be reading too much into it are answered when the article quotes a representative from another Vegas shelter, The Shade Tree, saying that housing trans women alongside cis women is a "big problem," and that trans women are shipped off site.
