Hey I'm trans and my name is Shann. I just want to know what gender you would guess the name Shann is (rhymes with Pan and can ect) not short for anything. Thanks

Hi Shann and welcome to Susans. My guess would have been female only because I would have thought it was short for Shannon, but when I researched it find males with that name so as a result male. I hope that helps. I look forward to seeing you around the forums. Good luck and Hugs

I've only ever heard of it as Sian (which is a Welsh name pronounced the same way as Shann), which was a girl's name when I heard it

Thanks guys. I was born female but I am male now. My name isn't short for Shannon and when you research Shann it's apparently a boy name so yea. Thanks for the feedback xx

I suspect how we perceive the gender implications of the name has much to do with who, how an where we grew up during our cultural formative years when after we realized we were part of something larger than a single living unit.

:)

It struck me as mildly male like Gail versus Gayle.

look at Dana Carvey, Gail Sayres, Charlize Theron, and I knew a girl named Roberta, who preferred to be called Rob.

Funny, this reminds me of a coworker I had a while back, her name was Miranda but she went by Randy. :)

I have a cousin Nicole, when she was younger went by Bob or Bobert.
