Sparks City Council voted on Monday to approve insurance coverage for gender reassignment surgeries for transgender city employees.
The issue was combined with an agenda item that detailed changes and savings under the city's new insurance plan, which is an agreement with Renown and Hometown Health that will go into effect Jan. 1. The general concern for Sparks City Council members was long-term savings for the city, especially when it comes to health care for retirees.

Well written piece with some interesting tidbits, i.e. that the ACA requires any entity that receives federal funding must cover gender reassignment surgeries. (articles words). The article also shows sensitivity on the part pf the reporter who refers to the surgery as life-changing, but also gender affirming. To me shows an understanding not always found in the writings of some reporters.
And, chalk up another city covering transition costs. What excites me is that perhaps the hospital I work for may soon cover GCS.
