Hello everyone!
I've been on T for 8 months now and I still look like a kid. Last guy I asked said I look 14, maybe 16 (I'm 25). I would get the same comments pre-T, but I just assumed that my kiddish look will go away with Testosterone.
So, I have a question for other young looking guys that have started T. How long after starting hrt did you notice you look like a man?
I realize everyone's changing differently, but I just want to know if I'm doomed to looking like a kid forever haha.
I've been on T for however long the ticker in my signature says. I've been carded for:
- Buying a gun (need to be 21)
- Buying alcohol (need to be 21)
- Buying M rated video games (need to be 17)
The guy who ran my background check for my gun initially refused to do it without 3 forms of ID because he said I looked about 16 years old and he thought it was some kind of sting ::) I get read as older when I'm shirtless because I'm super hairy, but that has been the only situation where people don't think I'm a teenager.
I am in my forties, been on T for 5 years, and I look like I am MAYBE twenty...Most people would never guess my age, let alone the right decade. It has progressed some, but I am still waiting for the man in the mirror to match the man in my brain.
As someone who has always looks younger than they are (even back when being pre-T and not being read as male), I have just kind of learned to suck it up. I'm just hoping one day to be able to do what some other guys do to counter the baby face, hide it behind a beard.
Eventually you may be grey-haired and balding, like me. It does wonders. (The balding part kinda sucks, but I'm definitely seen as a man...) Now, if I could just grow a #&*%@* beard... (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fthefiringline.com%2Fforums%2Fimages%2Fsmilies%2Fcool.gif&hash=d4879c0267a356dff26cd86b0fa87ea42a6199e1)
I'm the same age as you and almost three years on T, and I still surprise people by telling them my age. :P One guy actually thought I was enough young to have recent information about how some things work in elementary schools nowadays when I haven't been to said school level since 2002.
I think the way I dress doesn't help at all but heck I'm not gonna change that. When people get baffled by my age not matching how I look, I usually just say my secret is sleeping in moth balls. ::)
Been on T for more then 5 years and I am 24, I would say I probably look 17-21 People say I look young for my age, but also I haven't been carded since I moved to wisconsin lol (but they are big on alcohol here) It doesn't help that I cant grow facial hair. think that it helps to act mature and dress mature.
Also gonna hop on this train. I'm 23, been on T for the length my ticker says (15months) , yet people 99% of the time think I'm about 16yrs old. Still waiting to look like a "man" and not a "boy" too.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm 14 months on T now, and it's been just in the last maybe 2 months I've noticed myself finally looking older. I'm still not quite to my age but I'm much closer, people aren't surprised when i say 19 even if that wasn't their first guess.
I been on T for year and half now, and I get carded every time I buy alcohol (21 age limit), people probly think I'm a teenager, could be cause of my height, I'm 5'3
As long as my chest was reasonably concealed, I was read as male a lot pre-T, but that phenomenon became less and less frequent as time went by, mainly because of weight gain, I think.
On T, I started being consistently read as male from the 3.5-month mark on, but I was already middle-aged. So I was forty-six, but people thought I was in my twenties. I'm past fifty now. People still think I'm much younger than I am, but I figure that my age will catch up with me eventually. Still, if I colored the gray in my hair, I have no doubt that people would once again read me as being maybe thirty-five.
The age vs. appearance disparity is just a fact of life for most of us. I think it sucks most for the younger guys; I don't mind it myself except when people make the erroneous assumption that I haven't had many life experiences. So I'm keeping the gray!

you should look into minoxidil! i know multiple trans guys (as well as cis guys on youtube) who use it on their face and have incredible results in 1-2 months.

yep, this is what I am using. after 5 years on T, still hardly anything on my face. I only put the minoxidil on my face once a day and only when I am going to work because I heard that its super toxic to cats so I don't want to risk wearing it at night or when I am at home. But i've been putting it on for a few months now and I am seeing some more hairs.. still not much at all, but there is more.

it ultimately depends on your genetics.. i was blessed with dark brown hair and i was already pretty hairy pre-t, but now (one year on t) i have a decent amount in two weeks.
also, did you have any side effects? i've heard people on youtube say it burns their face (one guy said it for 30 minutes straight??) and others talk about heart issues. i have anxiety, so it makes me nervous, but i want to fill in the patchy areas and grow more.
I'm not very hairy now, does that mean I won't be after T? Funfact: only one of my armpits grows hair. Lol.
I'm mostly asking because I've spent years nagging my bf to shave his face and I'm gonna look pretty stupid if i turn into a bear :P
I've been on T for nine months, and to me, I look the same way I did when I was 16 with just a little more facial hair.

nope, I haven't noticed any effects, my heart rate has not seemed to change at all, I definitely don't feel any burning.
I get an occasional zit on my face, and I would say my face is a little dryer.. butttt its very cold and dry where I live and I just moved so its probably just my skin not used to it.
I know exactly what you mean, I am pre-t though. I'm 17 and seen as like 13 if I'm lucky. It doesn't help that I'm 5'4..
Will T make me look older?

Sure, in about twenty years.

I feel your pain - I'm 24 and 5'2", i think more people will suspect I'm lying about my age than will suspect i was AFAB
maybe if you grow a huge mustache? lol
I'm not sure about your family history Rodgersl31 but you might catch it lucky and get a second growth spurt. I grew 2 inches between the ages of 18 and 21.
I think the facial hair makes a big difference for guys all around, I'm still waiting for all of mine to come in (contemplating the minoxidil if these patches don't fill in soon)
I'm 29 and still get carded for alcohol, but so do my late 20s and 30s friends, cis or otherwise. It seems like especially when talking to older (45 and up) people, to them, EVERYONE looks like a teenager. I try to just accept it for now, and keep praying for that beard.

It's true. We can't help it.

Y'all will just have to wait until you develop actual faces, instead of those bland, line-free things you're stuck with now. It gets better; eventually you'll look like grown-up human beings instead of looking sort of, well, larval.
Honestly I blame all the high school based movies that star 20-30 somthin' year olds as 16 and 17 haha.
On a more serious note, I'm not quite passing yet but I noticed since going on T people think I'm younger even while perceived as a female. It leads to interesting conversations since I work at a bar.
I also blame the fact that some of my high school students (when I was a teacher) looked 35! ESPECIALLY the boys. We had some 6'+ kids that had these huge, bulging muscles and major facial hair... If I had seen them at the mall I would have absolutely thought they were out of college, but they were only 17. So when I first started working there, I actually had a security guard try and search my bag (even presenting as female), and I had to kindly explain that I was a teacher, NOT a student. They were quite embarrassed, lol. Makes me happy, though, considering that I am approaching 30 in a few months, and I am quite happy to look younger.
