Title: Apparently you do lose height from HRT
Post by: Sydney_NYC on November 04, 2015, 09:15:34 AM
Before I started HRT and even at my HRT doctor's office last March, I was measured at 6'7" inches tall. Last month I was in Florida visiting family and I noticed my brother seemed taller (he's 36 and 6'4".) My brother thought maybe I had lost height but I didn't think much of it. Then Sunday while my wife and I were shopping I ran into a guy that was taller than me and my wife commented on it and asked him how tall he was and he said 6'7". So last night I measured very carefully with a level again the wall and I'm now 6' 5¼" tall. This means that in the last 7 months I've lost 1 ¾" . Not that I'm complain and I'm kind of glad, but I was certainly was surprised that it happened the way it did. My pelvis is tilted differently now from HRT and I think that has a lot to do with it.

interesting. It's hard for me to tell if my shrinkage is do to HRT or because my knees are more bent because of arthritis

There are many people who report this, also a shrinking in shoe size.

Concerning height its possible changes in gait also play a role.

I do hope this is responsible for my current aches and pains rather than an increase in arthritis!

I'm down two inches and I don't have any vertebral compression or degenerative disk disease that might otherwise explain it.

I've lost height pretty steadily too, now down 3/4 of an inch after 11 months HRT (from 5'7" originally).  But I was wondering, why does that happen?  Everything I google says says that height loss is a bad thing (medically), like discs flattening, stooping posture or bone loss.  So.. what explains the height loss in trans women?

-different posture, different muscle holding of the spine
-changes in tissue between bones

I just talked about this with my therapist, she said that many of the trans women she sees say they have lost height.
For me personalty I was about 5'7.5 back in May and now I'm just under 5'6. After talking about it with her we came to the conclusion that the loss of muscle and fat redistribution is what causing the changes in height and foot size. I haven't measurement my feet lately but my shoes do seem to be loser.

Some of what I read said it is also thinner skin of the feet that contributes.
Love the 'long sigh of relief' part. ;D

It would be great to shrink below 180cm height, tall 183cm presently...

I have been on HRT for almost 6 months now. I'm 20. I went to DR a year ago and measured 5'11 but then last week I got remeasued at 5'10. So I'm almost positive I got shorter might have to do with muscles joints maybe the bone I don't know but I did shrink lol.

I agree the hips tilting might be a thing. I already have feminine hips and weight down there, but now it seems more pronounced, making me a bit self-conscious. I also have been getting a lot of back pain, especially on my period. So I think it's reasonable to assume my hips are tilting a bit. However, I went from 5'11 to just under 5'8, and the thing I noticed was my old pants come up under my tits now. I lost the height from my legs, as I now have a petite inseam, which is way lame. Tilted hips can't really explain all that. :/ Also, my feet are a bit smaller. I have an old pair of guy sneakers I wear sometimes, and used to exercise in them. Now I trip over my own feet wearing them. I'd say I lost at least two shoe sizes. Maybe two and a half.

Is the shrinkage of the male part total or a bit. When one sees porn with our TG/ TS sisters, the differences are quite varied. If having that bothers then SRS seems correct, if not working that out individually with others. It makes me wonder about dating...I am 60 in January

Yeah they say it doesnt happen but SOMETHING does happen. Cartilage changes or something.

Both my height and shoe size shrunk after transition. went from 5'10 to 5'9 and shoe size 10 in mens to size 10.5 in womens.
