Ok, I know I have been away from the site for a LOOOOONG time, so I came back to give everyone an update on what's been going on. I can't remember what I last posted, and I'm not going to waste my time checking. As of the beginning of the year, my wife and I were trying to get pregnant (I haven't started transitioning at all yet). It took us quite some time, and we finally got lucky over the summer, leading to a due date that is only a day off from our son. So that will be interesting, she's due the first week of April.
Things definitely got bad before they got good. All at once. Our first problem arose when we looked at our monthly budgets and noticed that we were definitely not making any money anymore. Sadly, we had to file for bankruptcy to eliminate our credit card debt and personal loans, as they were really dragging us down. Add to that long process, I ended up losing my job. And, all in the same month, we also were told after one of our appointments that it was likely the baby was not even going to make it 2 months.
It really hit us hard, but we decided that we could not get any lower than we were. It was only up from there.
2 weeks after hearing our baby would probably be a miscarriage, and my wife taking a medication that her doctor told her to stop, we got to our appointment to find our baby's heartbeat in full swing, "better than average," according to the next doctor we saw. We were very happy.
Ironically, it leads to my next great news, as I had 2 job interviews immediately after the appointment. I was denied unemployment, so we really needed some good news. And it came. The company that my brother worked for wanted to hire me on, and they even put me on a specialized position to drive a forklift, as most people that go there don't have that experience. It is still third shift, and I work a 12 hour shift, but the rotating schedule I am on only has me working half the year. Yes, my schedule has me working on 182 days out of the year. !!!!! I am thoroughly enjoying my many days off, and the sacrifice of the extra 4 hours every day is well worth it.
Our bankruptcy case also went through without a problem, and we're just waiting to hear that everything is gone. We are starting to save up once again, and actually preparing to go back to Disney next year.
And of course, next year I begin my hormone treatments, provided everything goes ok. It has been a long wait, but with support from my wife, my friends, and almost all of my family (nearly all my extended family knows now), it has been a very smooth road. As I put it to my mom once, it's like knowing you're going to hit the lottery, but just waiting for it to happen.
Also, today we find out if we are having a boy or girl, though the general consensus says the latter. Oh yeah, and my wife got a promotion and a raise, and my company hired me on full time (I was full time through a temp agency up until now). Apparently, as my boss says, I'm due for a small raise myself.
So, from being very down in the dumps and worried in July, we have climbed quite a mountain and are VERY happy with where we are now. The next year is going to be even better!
