Title: Everyone ready for the turkey and relatives.
Post by: stephaniec on November 10, 2015, 11:16:20 PM
I don't have anyone left from family so I usually hang out at Susan's. Is everyone planning a smooth or rough ride though the holidays.

We don't have Turkey Day here in Australia anyway...

Although we did just recently lose a turkey as Prime Minister.

My family still can't act like adults, so no I won't be anywhere near them for any day of the year until they can treat me like a human. At least I won't be alone this year. I'll be spending any big holiday with my boyfriend's family, who accept me without question.  :)

I'm looking forward to it and a little apprehensive at the same time.  This will be my first holiday get together after coming out completely.

So far I've gotten nothing but support from everyone in my family who has actually said anything.  I've had a few non responses too soooooooo, we'll see in a few weeks.

Overall, I think it will be ok....  A little awkward probably at times but ok otherwise.......  I hope.....  :)

I've been following a vegetarian diet pretty well so far, so no turkey for me!

I'll pretty much be eating sides this year.... But no stuffing. Which is killing me.

It'll be with my immediate family! (-: This thanksgiving is the first thanksgiving where I am out to all of them. It's a nice homecoming.

First ever just husband and I Thanksgiving.  We will use the time to go Christmas tree shopping and do some decorating.  That's what I'm planning anyways..  he may have a different take on it.

Turkey day is nothing really special in my family for the last decade or so sense my grandmother died, I will likely spend it eating dinner and watching tv or playing video games. The big one will be Christmas Eve when most of my family will get together at my uncles house for dinner and family gift exchange. That will be sorta big for me as it will be the first time I will be around my whole extended family sense I came out. Last year at that time I was still hiding everything, seeing a therapist and just started seeing a doctor for the first time the week before. This year I will have been full time for 6 months. So like complete change, except I haven't really changed much at all except in the visual department. I sorta expect a outpouring of support, a bit of misnaming and misgendering, a few weird questions I will answer with a smile and a joke, and some touching cards addressed to Serena.

Jive turkey relatives ;-)

OP: I'm so excited I get to have a somewhat regular Turkeyday this year with my brother and mom in WA. Though it's already started getting cold here in NorCal, I can't even imagine how cold it is now Redmond WA. I might even get to go skiing :-)

That's good timing Katie. They should be opening the passes around the 28th. Don't worry too much, it's only mid 40s to mid 50s on average. Western Washington stays pretty mild.  :)

Like, thank marshmallows this is one last thing I ever have to worry about! :3 This is the biggest load off my back that once devoured me like a lion during my dingy childhood!

So glad I have more choice in this matter now that I am no longer a minor, trans or not.  :D

I have a feeling a certain nameless individual who runs the site is a tiny bit jealous of the country that told the Queen to eat turkey or King at the time

Oh we love having the whole great big dinner event that takes days to prepare and a half hour to devour.  Having the house filled with cooking smells and people chatting is wonderful.  A turkey dinner is my favorite.  I enjoy socializing and entertaining and, as I have grown to love my role as a housewife, even the mountain of dishes is okay.  We do step away from the tradition in many homes of have some silly football game on tho :D

The somewhat greater respect being shown to Native Americans here includes some jurisdictions celebrating Indigenous People's Day vs Columbus Day (the Italian sailor who accidentally "found" this continent).  Good thing for us the Native Americans didn't have a Green Card immigration system ;D

Thanksgiving is also a traditional time to acknowledge our gratitude for our many good friends, family and fortunes.  So, many thanks to all of you for being YOU and sharing right here.

Even though as Tessa alluded to we just about wiped out the indigenous population and forced them into reservations.

I will be heading to the Chicago area to spend Thanksgiving with my girlfriend and her family. Hopefully the day after I will be able to meet up with one of the lovely ladies from this site and have some lunch before heading back to LA.

I'm not going home for Thanksgiving but I am for Christmas and I'm pretty excited/nervous. I'll have been on HRT for about 4 months, hopefully long enough for them to notice that I look physically different. This will only be the second time seeing my family since transition. The last time I saw them it was only for a few days and I wore pretty much only androgyous outfits. But this Christmas I am going to bring dresses and bras and jewelry and do my makeup and try to look as pretty and feminine as possible such that they can finally see me as the woman I am. Hopefully this female-presentation will convince them to *finally* call me Rachel and use female pronouns.
