Second Life - where the men are men, and the women are mostly men.
As I'm new here (2 days..nearly), I missed the post about SL so I thought I'd add my bit now.
I've been playing it for a while now as a girl (Name removed) and have found it has helped me so much with practicing interaction skills with GGs that I've got to know.
I've never discussed my gender with them, so when they say things like "I can tell you are really a girl" and "I know you're not a guy pretending", It makes me feel so good.
I really hate deceiving my virtual friends, they are real people after all, but who am I to bust their bubbles......and anyway, I wouldn't get to hear gossip about what they think of men if I did.
Does anyone else use SL to hone their skills?.................or do you just go there to get spanked in a seedy dungeon?
Feel free to IM me inworld, but please dont blow it for me. Im having enough problems coming out MTF. I don't want to have to do it there too FTM.

have been trying second life too, but it feels a little confusing and i can't even get where i wanted to go :P
Second Life? ???
You mean Recarnation? :)
Did i miss something here? :-\
Second Life is a virtual world where you create an avatar and interact with others.
Dennis
this thread should probably be in the entertainment section. as dennis said its a virtual online world. Its full of people. You can make things and sell them, or give them to other people. Sadly mostly you can only get in game money by buying it with real money. But there are places wit free things, i've been there all day "shopping" for my character :D
mmh wonder if you can get free land to build your house on
I found Second Life to be a really helpful place to try things with my identity, not to mention the TG resource center, where there are always 3 or 4 transgendered folk to talk to.
I'm Joyce Bohemia, if you want to look me up.

I'm taking my comment back!!! I LOVE SL and I LIVE THERE PERMANENT!!! lol
I've started using Second life a about a month ago. I'm still finding my nitch there but I think it is a good place because there are so many things you can do with your avatar. RLC and IMVU are good too. IMVU is best when it comes to outfits you can wear, Second life is best for shaping your body, RLC isnt good for either of those things but it is good for mobility, it was always fun to just go to a dance club there and dance your heart out.
oh btw. my name on second life is Anaya Nightfire :)

ok i'll try adding you when i have got time to go back to SL.
what is RLC? google only comes up with things like "Royal logistics corps" and "republican liberty caucus" and "rend lake college" and "refugee legal centre". don't think it's any of those :P

Red Light Center. It is more adult themed, though I mostly used it to just dance and chat with my tgirl friends.

OK you did it. I'm hook up on this!!! :-) I have my birthday today, (15 days old!!! lol), since you post here I login to see what is SL, but never thought how it works for me.
I LOVE SL now, but there as a GG :-)))) (I am completely happy with my girlfriends), I am a different person at all, I think the REAL MYSELF expressed there.
Maybe physicians - psychologists need to take a look at this. As one more tool for psychology issues and personality validation.
Quote from: Joyce on November 22, 2007, 09:59:15 PMAt $20/mth for the last 4 years (two accounts, add it up!) I suppose I could also upgrade my character presentation which has always been the male dog "Scratch"! LOL
How much "real estate" could I buy at that price? :icon_bunch:
In that price range you would be talking 2048m which normally supports 468 prims. However you can find it cheaper on a private island than on the mainland. In order to own land on the mainland you would have to have a Premium account(US$10/month) plus the US$15/month cost of 2048m tier. On a private island you should be able to get 2km for US$15/month without a premium account being required.

Not likely. Monthly land fees is what the SL business model is built on.
If anyone has questions about land in SL they can PM me. Do note I am an experienced but not unbiased source as this is my RL job.
I could never find anything to do! Everyone seems to just stand around. What am I missing?
I have had a character on SL for a long time. Rarely play it though. Female avatar of course. I have tons and tons of outfits. No house. Had a girlfriend on there for a while a few months ago... was only fun for a few weeks. Nothing really to do for fun after the relationship got boring as I already shopped a lot. found it real hard to make good friends on there which is probably why its boring.
If you want to contact with me inWorld, just IM me.
My name is Smoothie Perl and I am inWorld now like RL lol, mean as transgender person.
By the way I'm opening a new bussiness in Pavonia, because there is Transgender Resource Center also. So Pavonia may become a TG friendly Region ;-)
If anyone thinking to buy land, there are some plots FOR SALE there too.
How do you get to second life?I would like to have a look. All i seem to get is reincarnation & religion
I tried it maybe two or more years ago, before I was even close to transitioning.
I really did not know what to expect going in, I had never played those
types of games before. But the first thing you are ask to do is choose a sex....
I look back now and find it very telling that I chose female without hesitation. I
could have started out as male and changed... but my first thought was female.
Anyway it was so much fun changing her hair, body and face to be what I
always wanted.
The downside for me is all the guys just wanted sex... typical I guess... and
many of the females were non-TS males (I assume) that just got
off on having sex as girls so it was hard to make girlfriends with GG's that
I felt comfortable with. The non-TS males always turned to sex at some point
in a relationship. That's how I felt like I could tell a GG from male and there were
only a couple.
It is very addictive and it takes a lot of time to play. I loved the shopping and being able
to look just like I wanted. In a lot of ways it opened the door to where I am today. The
choices I made in second life were the ones I really wanted to make in real life and it
allowed me to safely explore a lot of the feelings that I'd pushed deep inside. It was
the first time I was able to be a woman without anyone looking at me funny.
I guess the biggest reason I quit playing is I came to the conclusion that second life
was a start but I wanted those changes in real life and it was really frustrating. It took
at least another year to come to terms with that and more time to start to move forward.
I highly recommend it for anyone that wants to "try on" being female... I think you
will know if it's for you. Just remember it's like "Flight Simulator"... close but not the
real thing :)

That's amazing... it was always crashing and slow with 10K... did not seem that
bad today.
Amanda
They have made alot of progress in load management over the past several months. However they still have alot of progress to make. Peak concurrency can still grind SL to a halt. Additionally they've made huge improvements with the viewer(from the snapshots looks like you're using the latest viewer) compared to when you last played that would reduce alot of the slowness and crashing. Havok 4 has also recently been introduced to replace Havok 1 which fixed most region crashes.(hell has frozen over, Havok 2 was legendary as the long promised never delivered update when I started over 2.5 years ago lol)
I had to download the latest viewer to even login... it was that old. But there was a new client
every week it seems like back then. But the pics are just screen prints... I could not remember how
to use the camera. :)
Being "in world" or is it "in life" ??? anyway... it did bring back some good memories. I looked through all
the fun outfits and hair I had bought... I was really addicted for a while.

For me SL is really my Second Life. IT ISN'T A GAME for those who want to see it serious. I'm inWorld since October 2007. I started as a girl and I lived with my avi for a long time. I owned a couple of successive companies and shops. I dropped down everything because my boyfriend felt in love with me and ask me to married him in RL!!!!! THAT'S WAS A MEMORABLE MOMENTUM!!! but a strange and difficult situation also. So I preferred to stop there before hurt him more.
From the first days of April 2008 I started my journey again, this time as that person I really am, a TG girl.
I feel great but I see some RL symptoms now ;-) For example when I'm dancing in a Club some times I see ppl to push back, getting away e.t.c. Weird heh? But that's something I had seen in RL sometimes too!!!LMAO!!!
SEYA inWORLD GIRLS!!!

I'd better take it serious :-) It's been my largest source of income and only job for over a year and it's where I met my girlfriend.

If my new company goes well maybe it will become my full time job.
So I'm taking SL damn serious girl that for sure ;-)
Hiy all,
I started a character today, so if anyone wants to hit me up my avatar is Jamie Hirschel. Hope to see you girls there soon!
I added you sis :-))))
Welcome aboard!
I'm a girl on IMVU and a boy on SL. Don't really like SL though, it's too big and there are too many distractions to just talking, which is all I want to do.
Dear Pica, you need time for search, but isn't impossible to find what you looking for.
There are many good ppl in SL.
I think you don't search in the right places.
Try inWorld Search (Groups - Places e.t.c.) and visit TG Center and TG Lounge often, they are in Pavonia Region.
I love MMO's but I don't get SL. There is nothing to do there. There are ads everywhere! Huge empty malls. Half of the buildings were casinos (did they remove that?) or sex clubs. AFK'ers everywhere. The people who were around were trying to take advantage of you. Hardly any of the objects work correctly. Most of the clothes, hats, accessories, etc. mess up the avatar. I could go on...
I'll stay with WoW.
Is it possible to put a beard on a female char or breasts on a male char
have just created a char. & downloading client now my char name is kinkly (last name starts with W ::) )
Why to put a beard in a female character? You feel like that?
You can be a perfect female and you choose to put a beard on you?
Anyway, yesterday it was my first inWorld session with sisters from US :-))) It was an awesome experience to be there like I lived close to them.
That's why I want to be there ;-)
For many of you that isn't something special, but for me that makes the difference from any other communication tool or program.
I'm on! "Lutin Brenot", and I've just arrived "in-world", and have *no* idea what I'm doing! ;D
QuoteIs it possible to put a beard on a female char or breasts on a male character?
I don't know...I would assume it's possible, as I almost managed to put a skirt on a male character (but then realized that if it got stuck like that I'd have no idea how to reverse it, and so decided not to).

Yes, a combination of genders, a null gendered person, your local friendly chimera, an androgyne.

yes while i'm Bio Male feel mostly female the only part of my body i don't consider ugly is my beard I told by a few friends that i needed to improve my image and when I grew my beard I got a few complements. While I'm Pre everything I dot see me loosing the beard until my face is more female.
My char is female with beard & long hair
but there seems to be nothing to do
I used a link someone posted here but i couldn't find anything special where i was teleported to i think i'll go back to runescape

Its good to see so many of you are on SL. I am a total SL addict I build script and am a sim owner there *giggles* I don't think I stayed a male on SL for more than a month before I changed into a cute little leopard girl. Most of my newer friends there are genetic females there and have no clue I am a guy IRL although I will admit to it if asked.
All my old friends know since I kept my same name and all and they say it suits me way better LOL. Anyways I have a nice little business there and am In-world every day (usually later in the day eastcoast). I would love to hear from any of y'all in there, so search>> Free Wildcat and shot me a MSG or stop by my sim>Dolphine Deep in the furry valleys and check out the new garden center I am building.
*waves a paw* see you In-World =^_^=
PS: If anyone wants help with their AV, needs to talk or just want someone to go shopping with MSG me anytime. :)
Well, I have an account.
And just today I was clearing up some seldom used programs on my computer and came across Second Life again. So I decided to check it out to see if it had changed much. Unfortunately, from my perspective, it hasn't.
My initial perception was that it's just evolved into a playground for interactive cybersex. A playground where people's fantasies are actually acted out explicitly. Morals are sometimes thrown out the window because, although many people that SL seriously, if things go too far you can always use the scapegoat 'it's just a game'.
But what worried me the most was the horrible misrepresentation of the transgender community. If you try a search for transsexual in SL's search engine, you're filled with results about ->-bleeped-<-s, bdsm clubs, escorts and 'forced feminization'.
So yeah, I was a bit upset when I saw all that. Maybe there's more to SL, maybe I'm wrong. I'll admit I didn't stay too long, so perhaps I didn't see all the positive sides.
But I just thought I'd throw in my two cents since I just logged on today.
^_^
Hopefully I didn't offend anybody who really enjoys it.

Second Life was and in many ways still is life unfiltered. The filters are creeping in but Linden Labs has resisted filtering and mostly just followed the law. Search results are ordered by traffic and sex sells. Looking at the top search results with mature content unchecked the top result is a Twisted ->-bleeped-<-s Club at 20442 traffic(this result is a blatant TOS violation that should be marked mature). The 3rd and 4th results are more in line with what we'd be looking for an LGBT friendly lounge and a trans resource center but only have 2304 traffic and 1975 traffic respectively nice but no competition with a sex club. As long as LL uses the traffic metric to sort results positive trans locations will be buried deep under 'sex sells' stuff in the mature listings.
There is alot of sex just like on the regular internet and in regular real life. Human life sort of revolves around sex. However this isn't the fault of SL isn't what SL is about or the only thing in SL. Almost everything in SL is created by users there is a small set of linden provided content that can be found in your library but in terms of percentage of total content isn't even measurable. People use SL is a wide variety of different ways. The popularity of sex doesn't reflect badly on SL it's a reflection of humanity allowed by SL.
As a trans individual SL has been a wonderful gift to me allowing me to experience life as a woman in a way thats not possible, atleast now, in real life. Not the clothes or the body or the name although I certainly get that. But just being able to interact with people who see me as nothing but a woman.
SL is what you make of it and there is a vast and diverse world that goes far beyond sex clubs and camping chairs.
I agree with both of you Nikki and Floating.... SL has good things and bad. If you can get past the bad things it
does help you explore being a woman full time. For me a fun thing was changing my body and face to be
exactly what I wanted... but that is the frustrating part too... I wanted that in real life. And it made real life that much
more painful. But I think anyone new here that has never tried SL and wants to experience being a woman should
try it... it will be eye opening for you.

Well SL is a lot like RL in that you will find what your looking for. I have met some outstanding folks from all over the world there. I am in a horse riding club that explores a different sim every week and I run a business that brigs in RL money. So there is a lot to do there besides sex. Also I am aware of at least one TG support group there but I think there are more. I have not talked to the owners but they have some good reading material at there office as well as a way to contact of of them if you need to talk. Again if anyone wants to hangout in SL IM me inworld >> Free Wildcat or PM me here.

I never heard of SL until now. I just joined and am downloading the client., I am Sly Thespian. That cute blond avatar actually looks a lot like me since I am a natural blond with hair that length and I am small boned. I can't wait to explore this brave new world.
Virtual reality thing for me started quite early, first with Sims. Although i
given up sims (after many hours, days, months, i think even a few years
of playing) many years ago i still tried Second Life, last year.
Just like with any other game of that style i found it wrong, i had moments
of pitying myself for "living" that virtauy life and leting go of real one....
eventaully i quit all of these, and don't miss it at all
I find that living in most major cities, SF, LA, NYC, Philly, Miami etc. is pretty much life unfiltered. Everything is there if you take the time to look and read and ask.
My laptop isn't really high-spec, and I use mobile internet, so I can't really download and play Second Life, much as I would like to. But I did create an account in IMVU, and got completely caught up in the whole shopping thing. It was so much fun. Once I found I was able to buy credits through my mobile phone, heck I would spend hours browsing the outfits and hair styles.
I came out to the second person ever through that, and it was the most surreal experience you can imagine. We were sat around a table, in a Japanese style house, with strains of Koto music playing in the background, and a view of the ocean, drinking tea and just generally chewn' the fat.
She wanted to know why I'd chosen a female avatar, since she knew me as male, and it just sort of all came out. Very strange, baring your soul to an albino cat woman with a huge samurai sword strapped to her back, lol. But I felt so much better afterwards. And she gave me a black rose. :)
Unfortunately, she has since disappeared from the face of the net and, since no one else I know uses IMVU, or knows me for me, I've stopped using it. Right after I bought a huge, gothic castle to lounge around in, lol. It does have AIM or MSN beat hands down though... there's nothing quite like chatting on the back of a giant eagle, soaring through the sky above the clouds, bathed in moonlight.
Wow
Its sounds like IMVU has come a long way since it started. I was one of the first 5000 or so on there back when there were only like 4 different "rooms" to hang out in. Me and another kitty use to spend hours hanging out on a rooftop in the moonlight chatting. It was way better than YIM or MSN but then I found SL and gave up most of the other chat clients besides yahoo. I will have to take another look at IMVU sometime soon.
Oh and SL can really suck you in. If you have a addictive personality or are really unhappy in RL. I have seen several folks that went from newbie to staying in-world over 20 hours a day. One girl I know lost her job got kicked out of her house and had to move back in with her parents because she was so hooked on SL.
Krystal
Second life is the ultimate body modification fantasy. There is no such thing as "fat clothes" in second life. If an outfit makes your butt look big, just change your butt.
I installed Second Life last week-- but I can't use it because my computer's memory and graphics card or whatever you call it (<--- not a techie) are inadequate. When I tried to run SL, it first went extremely slow, then froze up entirely. So until I upgrade to a spiffier computer, the SL woman who is me will be parked offline in the garage or wherever it is they go to when not in action. Big disappointment.
I've tried it out... but it just seems too tedious to customize everything and get to the interesting stuff. I lost interest easily.
Oh, there's plenty of stuff to do. Just have a little patience. :D

You may want to try Google's Lively, it is a bit less tedious, but not as much to do.
i've been a big fan of RPG's over the years, but i haven't yet figured out what's so great about SL. i think i've spent the greatest majority of time trying to earn money. earning money is a big part of lots of RPG's, too, but you're doing very exciting things in the process. such as rescuing a castle keep, or attempting to slay a dragon.
in SL, i've literally spent hours dancing on camp pads for a paltry L$2 per 15 minutes. what a yawn.
true, there are numerous facilities for cuddling and making out (and even more mature stuff besides) but after a while, one starts to get the feeling that the reason these petting areas are so prevalent is because nothing much else is going on. maybe i've gotten jaded by having too much fun in RPG's. but right now, i find SL is just about as dull and tedious as RL.

You know, I think pretty much the same. I mean, you can revel in being able to have a female avatar and everything that comes with it for so long... but ultimately there has to be a point.
You're right about RPG's and money... the difference is that the money you earn is used to improve your inventory for dealing with the ever-increasing threat level of the next dragon/evil megalomaniac/deranged cyborg. There's a purpose to it... it's leading to something.
Plus... taking the gold from the rapidly cooling carcass of the hellspawn you just vanquished is somehow very satisfying.
It seems like Second Life and its ilk are like... giant side-quests, with no main event. I think I would get bored very rapidly.
SL is no more and no less than what the residents bring to it. I guess I don't get off on pre-canned adventures anymore. What happens when you get to the end of the game? You could start over and do it all again, I guess. I prefer the independence to do whatever I feel like and make my own goals. I don't like the feeling of being lead down a path.
Last night I participated in a poetry workshop in SL put on by the INKsters. The presenter was Sunnie Beaumont, and it was a great deal of fun writing and sharing our poems.
That's the thing about SL. You have to network with the people who know what's happening. The easiest way to do that is to join groups. Click on the "Search" button and go to the "Groups" tab. There are lots of educational opportunities in SL. But not everybody is into that.

true, there are numerous facilities for cuddling and making out (and even more mature stuff besides)
*shy smile* And we have to make-do with only them at least for this month.
