Title: does anyone still use eye shadow.
Post by: stephaniec on November 27, 2015, 09:58:39 PM
I like just using lashes and pencil I've never used eye shadow. I haven't noticed to many girls around my neighborhood that use it. I was just wonder how many out there still shadow their eye lids.

Every single day! Women around here around my age late twenties still use it. Haven't noticed it on older women however. I've pretty much found what I liked an almost smokey eye look and have stuck with it for the past month.

I guess it's just a curious sort of thing . I live across the street from a major University and l'm the only senior in my apartment building , but I really don't notice anyone young or old wearing it. Maybe it's regional. Of course everyone around here is 18-26.

I do use it, but very lightly. I do see many women wear it here. Some of it is lighter in color with a little glitter for women in their 20's and 30's.

I think I'm going to turn this into my project, I live in a downtown area next to a Big Ten University and an upper middle class economic area. I will report back after some investigation.

It is the only eye makeup I use! I don't use it very often but something about it is fun. Actually it is the only makeup I use. Plenty of the women I know, art and music weirdos in their 30's and 40's use it. They all use the other stuff too. I don't get mascara though. My lashes have gotten so much longer and fuller on hrt and still a lovely ginger blond. I have a great shade of shadow that is like a metallic copper/umber. A bit of that on my lids and a touch under my eye really makes the old blues pop. Or I have some pale pinks that are great for when my lids look a bit veiny.

Just have to remember not to touch them!

I like to wear natural shimmery eye-shadow from Wet N Wild called walking on eggshells:

When I am going out for the evening I will do the brown outer edge but otherwise I will just do the eyelid for a more natural look.

Yep I do.

Average day at work it's just a bit in the crease and nude shadow on the lids with eyeliner and mascara and eyebrows done....but when I want to really look good, it's all smokey eye

Having done a little business travel around the US, I have to say it is regional. Boston-Wash corridor more so then West coast. Big cities more so then out in the sticks. Middle aged (?) more so then the 12-20 and 40+ crowd (perhaps my wife's rationale... No sense putting paint on a wrinkled canvas?). Also job/work situation and it's expectations/dress code/peer pressures. So many factors there Max (Sorry, couldn't pass up the pun)

I tend to use shadow for reasons similar to Valwen's, an unambiguously female presentation as possible for this six footer. Which generally is my fav girlie-girl. In jeans I tend more towards just a light touch mascara

I like the nude shades from Tartelletes and UD Naked palettes, I avoid too much shimmer on my eyes as it will only make my eyes more hooded so I stick with the mattes :)

Very light application in the morning, at night you can make it more dramatic xo

I'm all about the eyeshadow and eyeliner to give me lots of emphasis, and tend to keep my lips nude. I love the Charlotte Tilbury Sophisticate eyeshadows. Goes on amazingly, lasts forever, and nice neutral shades that suit everyone

I do if I'm getting all dressed up (I don't wear makeup otherwise). But it can also be a really subtle thing - my wife can put on 3 shades of eyeshadow and still look like she's wearing nothing unless I'm *really* close, like kissing close. ;)

I usually prefer lashes foundation and my main lip stick lol. I wear eye shadow when I go out my favorite is putting on a base and then putting loose glitter on the lids. On an everyday my must have are foundation and mascara and probably lipstick maybe with a winged liner. If I don't wear shadow I always have concealer on my eyes.

I have to agree here based on my preliminary scientific investigation. The town I live in is absolutely  devoid of eye shadow. I'm going to keep the investigation open even though I don't leave my area much. I will be going to Boys Town Monday so I'll see if this is regional. There a girl who works in the beauty section of the local CVS that wears long lashes  , but no shadow. It could be an age thing , but it seems my area has been relocated on a different planet because I haven't seen anyone the last couple of days wearing shadow. I don't think I've ever seen the college kids wear shadow.
, but as I said the investigation is still open.

I do wear it every day, although you probably wouldn't notice. You would notice if I didn't wear any, though.

Lots of people go for a more subtle look during the day (and sometimes the evening). It's called "natural make-up look" or even "no make-up make-up look" when it's subtler. You can google those terms to see what we're doing to make it seem like we have no makeup on.

I'm in a restaurant at the moment at 7 pm on a Saturday night sitting across a table of females ages 9-35. There is no hint of shadow and the waitress same way. It's not a big deal just curious. There was a Twilight Zone episode where like a 5 mile section of a town was transported overnight by an alien species that needed slaves, but my internet still works so that probably didn't happen.

Hiding a scar, hiding the sunken eye look, trying to draw attention to the eyes and away from other features, because it makes you feel girly and you need that sometimes all the usual reasons to wear make-up.

When I really wanna get dolled up, I use very light eye shadow with a little bit of shimmer in it.  Day to day, I don't wear any makeup: I already spend too much time putting an outfit together!  I vaguely recognize that some of my outfits would look better with a little more makeup... meh... one thing at a time.

Black mascara is a mistake I've made -- it makes my eyelashes look like they've been glued on!

It is regional thing too. Here in the NYC Area, I would say more than 50% of women wear eyeshadow. However when visiting family in East TN, very few do and even so it's only for special occasions of a night out on the town.

Very true different areas have different percentages of women(or men) wearing makeup. I live in NY to many girls around here wear eyeshadow. When I went to visit my cousin in NC, not so many were as flashy and wore makeup as much as people in NY.

Update  on mini scientific investigative report : I'm sitting at a window facing the main street of down town Evanston .It's 2: 40 PM Sunday. I'm sitting with a capacity crowd of students nd out the window there is an active crowd of pedestrians walking in the downtown area ages 1 -90 The live count so far is like 2000 give or take a 100 or so vs  0 as far as any hints of eyeshadow, 0 being those wearing eyeshadow.( I'm training myself for investigative reporting.)

I think I just spotted another one , but she had drk skin so not totally sure, she was about 20. So there definitely seems to be a regional difference. Side note there have been no sightings of males with eye show in either district.s. Investigation continues

Here in the NW i live close to a college campus and i think the younger girls wear it, but generally it is pretty light and subtle. I always see that look: Very light eye shadow, eye liner and mascara.

The exception to that is i am seeing more "cat eye" eyeliner at night on women. I like the look but i find my skill in getting there to be lacking.

My normal wear these days for work is light shadow, a bit of primer, brown eyeliner and clear or light mascara. I don't generally go for concealing the facial shadow. (thankfully mine is slight) except at nights or when i go out shopping etc. I do wear a bit of concealer daily under my eyes.

I used to wear very heavy eyeshadow, almost every single day, until I slowly realized 90% of cis women in public had no eyeshadow on. I wanted to blend in so I stopped wearing eyeshadow altogether. Only eyeliner and mascara for me. Excessive eye makeup seems to be a common "trans" look.

I apologize if I'm stepping out of place. I'm FTM, but I have to do the feminine thing for work.

When I'm wearing eye makeup, I use a neutral shade from Clinique called Straw berry Fudge with a Maybelline black pencil eyeliner and the Manga mascara. The last two have to be waterproof because of my contacts.

Eye makeup can be very downplayed and kind of natural looking. Examples:

I love my urban decay eye shadow palettes! I only usually wear makeup when I'm dressing up for something, or know I'm going to be taking a posed formal picture. But when I do, I do my eye makeup all the way. If I'm in a rush and want to look good for school or something I'll just do a little eye liner and lip gloss. But I can get away with less makeup because of my skin. It can get splotchy at times, but the creams I use usually make it go away pretty quick after showering.

I'm only adding this comment in the interest of diversity.

I haven't worn makeup of any kind since my last job interview, in 2003. I used to love doing the whole thing, but finally got bored with the time it took every day. Then I found out I could pass without makeup. I applaud those of you with the stamina to do makeup. I'd rather not.

I think you make a great point about blending....I guess the trick is not to overdo it....

Not over-doing the eyshadow will most definitely help, if the aim is to blend in. Nothing wrong with wanting to stand out though. I know not over-doing it is the trick, but like I said, I've noticed the majority of women in public have no eyeshadow on at all. The eyes are also often the first point in the face that people look at when staring at others, so as much as possible I just avoid eyeshadow now.

I'm more of a contour and highlight girl. :)
