Title: Can't believe it's been a year
Post by: iKate on December 01, 2015, 09:41:39 AM
I can't believe it's been a whole year!!!

Exactly a year ago I went to Beth Israel LGBT clinic for two purposes - one was a new primary care doctor as my previous one was no longer treating me due to insurance issues. The other was to start hormones so I could transition. I had been taking low dose before this but it was clear I was on dangerous ground without medical supervision. I walked out with a prescription which I ran to get filled. I found out my insurance wouldn't cover E without pre-auth but I went and got it anyway, paying cash.

And so far, medically and physically, I've had close to zero regrets. The medical conditions I was suffering with - high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol - are now well managed and under control. I have a new zeal in life and an incentive to take care of myself.

Changes are still happening and happening pretty fast now. I can't recognize the person I was anymore at all. He's completely gone I would say.

Has my transition been ideal or perfect? Very far from it I would say. But I am happier with who I am. I have little gender dysphoria now. I pass without issue everywhere I can think of and I am full time everywhere.

Anyway, happy 1 year anniversary to me. :)

Happy first second birthday. :) Funny having two birthdays.. oddly enough, my second is in October and I've found I've adopted some libra traits. :P My friends and parents celebrate it too, which I'm really thankful for. My mom even got me a pretty cake with a '2' candle for my two-year. :3 At first I thought it was a bit selfish and I was half-kidding about even having another birthday but y'know, we deserve it for what we go through. Hope yours was good. :)

Happy one year girly! I saw your ID photo on your FFS thread and must say despite your wishes to get FFS, you already look pretty feminine and passable!

I'll be joining the anniversary club this February, but it will be two years on HRT and not one!

You know better than I do how despite what people tell you, you always see stuff that you hate and FFS will help a little or a lot. I was partially inspired by your result, as I am sure many are.

In any case, yes, I pass but I have my doubts sometimes. That said, the situations where I pass surprise even me given my daily life, who I meet and interact with. But sadly, I feel some people still have doubt... starting in your 30s is different from even your 20s. Thankfully genetics has been on my side I would say. And I have tons of confidence. I am not cocky, I just live life without fear.

So 2016 will likely be the year of FFS, and then SRS shortly thereafter because I just want it over with. Mainly I want to leave enough time before the 2016 Presidential election because the few months before it will be really busy for me, work wise. I may end up doing it after the election.

Genetics is definitely on your side. :) I remember being shocked upon finding you were in your late 30s. Based on the various pictures I have seen of you, I would have assumed *very* early 30s at most. I had originally guessed you were maybe 29. I'm glad transition is moving along for you! I don't know when---or even if---I am ever going to get SRS, but it certainly brings me joy when others in the community are driven to succeed.

Congrats iKate! As I have followed you on your journey, I have always felt the courage and determination you demonstrate as you meet challenges, and the joy when you achieve your goal. You look great! My progress has been slower. I am also now in year 2. Our ages are different and that has more of effect on me. All the best as you continue along the path.
