I had a hysto in October and my T provider told me there was no reason to check my testosterone levels.  I have heard of guys thinking that their levels would go up after hysto, but it wasn't the case.  However, I can't help but wonder about it, especially since I am only one year on T.

I have a new T provider and I understand that he is new to this.  So, I thought I would make a poll.  Thanks for your participation.

I spoke to my doctor about this the last time I saw her. She said after my hysto, I'd maintain the same dose for a few months (unless there were obvious issues), and then we'd do blood work and take a look. She said it takes some time for things to settle out and that in her experience, most guys are able to cut their dose down because their levels are naturally a bit higher without the competing estrogen.

I see her again in 3 weeks, so I'd be happy to ask her to explain in greater depth if you'd like.

Thanks, Max.  I think I am going to email an experienced T provider I know at the same office for a second opinion.  My acne has increased and it was bad like this when I was on too high of a dose in the past. 

You said "a few months".  Do you think she meant 3 months, then?  I was thinking 3 months would be a good time to check.  I really don't like the new provider I have (my old one left).  I learned he is also new to trans care, as well.  I don't want to insult him, but I think I am going to ask to switch to someone else.

Yes! I see her quarterly and this next visit would be my last for another year since we're going annual, but she did say she'd see me next quarter since we're planning on my hysto being in January. So ~3 months is probably correct.

I actually had to increase my T dose post hysto...  My doc waited about 3 months after the surgery before checking and it was lower, so we gave it a little bump up.  That has remained okay for the past two years.  I still get my levels checked 2-3 times per year.

I figure that my organs have completely shut down anyway, so I'm hoping that hysto changes nothing. I guess I'll know next year, the next time I get my levels checked.

My T levels went really high and started converting into estrogen (my estrogen level was higher than it was pre-T!) so my dose had to be reduced a little. Still working on evening it out so I'm not sure how much it'll ultimately be reduced.

I appreciate the additional responses.  It looks like it could go either way, or no change at all.

This information has encouraged me to push for a level check, even if I am told that it is not necessary.

I am going to wait until January at the 3 month mark.

I had a hysto at the end of February. I will have my levels checked in a few weeks. I'll let you know what happened.

I had my hysto at about 14 months on T. My wife says I was a complete bear as soon as I had my next injection. I had my t checked (by my request) 2 weeks post op and I was almost double my normal (yikes). My dose was cut about 25% and rechecked about 3 months later and I was back to normal and have been stable since then.

Conversely, I've heard of guys needing to go up and some staying the same so, yeah, it really is a crapshoot. I don't know on what timeline one should be checked but I agree that after a period of time you should be checked To verify your levels are all ok after removing those organs.
