My family hasn't been 100% accepting. My dad doesn't talk to me (not a single word, nor attempt of contact even though he goes and spends months at my brother's). Lately my aunt who is also my godmother has been posting anti trans Caitlyn Jenner memes on facebook. I unfriended her months ago so it doesn't bother me because I don't see them. But my mom was friends with her.
Until this week.
Mom told me that she had a big fight with my aunt and then unfriended her on facebook, and told her she wouldn't talk to her anymore until she apologizes to her and her daughter. Yes, her daughter. Me. My other aunt has also stood by my mom and told my other aunt to just knock it off.
WOW. Just, wow.
I have never thought that people would stand up for me in this way. I mean my mom is my mom but I never expect this of her. I thought she'd just brush it off and keep the peace. But I am glad she and my other aunt are standing up for me.
She's also been there for me, talking with me about my love life in particular. She advised me to be careful because it's dangerous out there and a lot of men just look to take advantage of you.
She capped it off saying that my aunt is probably afraid of me because I'm prettier than her, and younger.
Well... I never...! :)
I love my mom.

That is awesome to have a mom to stand up for you like this. I'm also fortunate to have a mom who also stands up for me and it's awesome. My father also hasn't talked to me either since I came out. He's even gone out of his way to avoid seeing me. Fortunately the rest of my family has been supportive for the most part. My mother has one half sister that at first said some transphobic things on Facebook when Jenner came out and both my mom and I called her on it. My mother had a few words about it and she later apologized.
Lovely post Kate.
iKate, your mom is a gem. It's wonderful to hear that she has supported you in such a profound way. Hugs

She is a gem. I already love her xoxo
Send my regards to her
Hugs,
Kate,
I feel so very good for you! You deserve that and more. :)

So awesome for you!
When growing up, I realized that when any of her children were threatened or not given full respect my Mom was the fiercest animal on the planet. It is great to see yours come to your aid. I hope mine will still feel the same when I get to telling her. So glad for you.
With warmth,
Joanna

With my mom, I grew up estranged from her because after her and dad split. I didn't think she cared that much.
Transition has actually brought us closer, believe it or not.
That is wonderful.
It reminds me of my mom... we are very close and she loves having a daughter. she told me that she wished for a girl when she was pregnant with me... she got her wish, just 20 odd years later.
Like you my father was not accepting, he never spoke a word to me again. When he passed my mother and I reconciled and now we are as close as ever.
I don't know if my mom wished for a girl. Maybe. I know I wanted one. I got two. :)
Either way I am happy mom supports me and I realize it could be worse. But the good news is that my transition is 100% on me, self funded and not really beholden to anyone. Not my parents, not anybody else. So I can walk free and clear away from anyone i need to.
Dad may or may not come around. I think it's time to really just move on. He never really got along with me as a teenager anyway until I moved out of his house.
