Hello all, this is my first post here.
im just starting to plan my Mtf srs surgery in thailand and my question is this.
what kind of travel insurance would i need to make sure im covered in case of any complications? obviously any minor complications are covered by the surgeon but what if i need emergency medical care in thailand? would a normal type travel policy work or is there a specific type of policy for medical tourism (pardon the horrible term there)
thanks very much for the help.
Tasha.
I looked into that and I don't think its normal insurance. All the policies I found excluded it.
Worst case, hospitals are quite cheap there and if you're going with a reputable surgeon that will probably make sure you're taken care of properly. It would be bad for their reputation otherwise.
I would venture a guess that any complications both major and minor will be taken care of by the physician. If you want regular health protection it's available but anything related to post-op wouldn't be covered as it would be a considered a pre-existing condition.
See if a travel agent can recommend a travel insurance company for a definite ruling. If you belong to an auto club like AAA or CAA in Canada, they offer travel insurance.
I'd also get insurance to cover your flights in case you need to cancel.
Love,
Clare

If you go to reputable surgeon you will not need travel insurance for anything that can happen to you because of surgery related matter. But you need regular travel insurance for anything else, not surgery related, that can happen to you during your travel and stay.
