Title: Tis the season for... kids?
Post by: iKate on December 21, 2015, 11:50:32 AM
Looks like more kids are showing up at work. Parents bringing them in because school is out.

In the malls and other places, lots and lots of kids.

I must admit it makes me a bit uneasy. Yes, even though I don't have any issues passing I have this feeling in the back of my head that one of them is going to see something nobody else sees and blurt it out.

Sort of like the Emperor's New Clothes.

Anyone else feel this way?

I love when a kid notices something different about me. You can read it in their eyes!  :)

Hugs, Devlyn

Used to be 12-13 year old girls were the worst.  They are watching everything women do because they are learning how to be women.  So naturally they pick up on the slightest inconsistencies.  But now, with so many kids not conforming to binary gender roles, I don't think it's the "novelty" it used to be to "read" a transgender person.

Sometimes when I'm around kids or teenagers I have this disturbing feeling that one of them will start to mock me for my appearance which happened quite a lot when I was a kid.

Well nothing happened. Even saw one kid and her mommy in the restroom. Nobody even noticed me. I guess I should just learn to relax.

These fears are mostly irrational fears at this stage of the transition. Learning to relax can be really hard, at least for me.

Kids are great.I love them. And never felt worried about them misgendering me but then the younger ones are mostly dumbfounded by my shock of red hair!!

Deep in the back of my head I feel concerned but the only kid to have outright misgendered me was a friend's kid and it's because they told her about me. Even so the kid was unsure. She asked,"are you a boy?"
