Hi Ladies! Firstly, I apologise if I am in the wrong place for my post, I'm new here :) my name is Cynthia and I'm a transgender woman almost three months in hrt. I just wanted to ask, is it safe to take herbal hormone medication to enhance booty and breasts such as maca root and..vitex something I think? While on synthetic hrt.
Thank you, xx
I'd talk to your doctor, but personally I wouldn't mess around with stuff that would interact with prescribed estrogen. Plus the fact you shouldn't need anything if your on HRT. I'm nt a medical person so I really don't know
I tried that for one day with a different herb in a tea and it gave me a headache. So I stopped.

Tbh i wouldnt mix the two, you could end up unintentionally blocking your receptors and the effects of both will be nulled. Stick with hrt it takes a year or two before youll see massive results but its worth the wait from what ive seen.
As far as herbals go i use them but thats because i have to wait about a year until hrt due to backlogs.

Thanks guys :)
Any thoughts on milk thistle for liver as well? I'm concerned about the poor thing, being a drinker and all.
I don't know , but you'd probably do better not drinking
Alchohol, caffeine and pretty much every other guilty pleasure will impede your progress.
I suggest drinking a ton of water at least 4 litres a day, take multi vitamins and milk/milk substitute though id be wary of soy milk in fear of its phytos interfering with your meds.
If your pee is not completely clear then your not getting enough water.

I know I know, I'm just still busy trying to quit :( same for cigarettes. I'm at least down to two a day just trying to quit further, and drinking is usually like once a month but I tend to binge when I do so it's a problem. My liver already sustained alot though, would the milk thistle do any good?
Hey Foxxy!
Welcome to Susan's :) Great to have you here - looking forward to seeing you around the forum.
I asked my endo about continuing on herbals once I was on HRT and he said he wouldn't recommend it since they had the tendency to counter the effects and cause the exact opposite to happen. So based on that alone I'd suggest you go with the HRT by itself.
Secondly, if you are now on estrogen you should try as hard as possible to give up the cigs and moderate the drinking lest you end up with blood clots or liver problems. Both are heightened risks on HRT and smoking/alcohol only heighten it further.

SYNTHETIC HRT? Who in the world prescribed that? Bioidentical is the only safe way. Are you being medically supervised at all?

Cynthia:
By all means work with your physician. Discuss any phyto-estrogen you are curious about. Three months is still quite early to observe much chemical change on ERT or any other regime.
You must be knowledgeable about phyto-e. It is not a matter of going to a herbal store and buying a bag or two of whatever you think you want. Phyto-e chemistry can react to your prescription in ways that you may not expect and may either heighten, diminish, or merely be a waste of money but cause medical complications years from now.
Yes, better to focus your energy to quit smoking and boozing. You'll be far healthier all around dumping those two vices first, then you can discus other medical options. If you lose your health and your liver, you may not get a chance at further opportunities.
Some surgeons will refuse to operate on a patient who smokes or consumes excessive alcohol.
You will read on threads here that many people receive a standard 'cocktail' of any variations of estrogen, progesterone, finasteride, and spironolactone. Those seem to be the tried and true medicines; check with your endo for what will work best with you. Frequent blood draws will document your progress.
Take care and stay healthy.

My bad, assumed it's synethic. Its definitely that because it's hormones I see alot of people undergoing hrt using it ie estrofem and androcur.
I'll be honest here. I was on herbals before I started my hrt and when they did my pre blood tests my t was at 15 but my liver function tests were 4 times what they should be. My doctor said that it could have been the herbals over stressed my liver so he sent me for another liver test. So in summation they lowered my t did nothing for my e and stressed out my liver. Me personally I will be staying away from herbals from now on.
Before I started HRT I was taking Fenugreek and bought a bunch of bottles. Not wanting to waste my money I have been still taking it along with HRT because my sense from my research is that it's fairly safe/harmless - pregnant/nursing women take massive amounts of it to help with lactation and it's been around for thousands of years. I am getting amazing results - I am very happy with the physical progress I've made so it doesn't seem like it's interfering with development.
I've been taking an herbal for several months now... I'm not entirely sure, but I think I'm starting to see some results... or it could be wishful thinking. ???
