So, I'm trying to grow my hair out, and it's been about 7 months since my last hair cut. This is great and all, but it's starting to get a little out of control in areas that aren't integral to looking girly. I'm thinking about getting it trimmed up a little bit, but I'm a little unsure of what to ask for. So, here is what I want:
1) I want something that I can parlay into a longer style. I want to grow out, but I do not want a mullet (except maybe a Cameron Esposito side mullet).
2) I want something that is "gender flexible". I'm not out at work yet, and don't anticipate being so for some time yet, mid-year at the earliest. I want something that can be styled feminine on the weekends and masculine or androgynous on the weekdays.
3) I'm an attorney, so it has to be something fairly professional throughout, no emo swoops in my near future.
Anyone have any style suggestions or celebs with hair that I might be able to model?
Also... how does one go about finding a trans friendly hair salon in the great state of Arkansas? I want to be able to unpack my needs, without dancing around the fact that I'm transitioning, but I also don't want to deal with bigots.
Yeah, you really should take that to a hair salon so they can discuss what will work best for you. As for finding one that will work with them just try ringing around and ask them, they don't need to know who you are until they say yes and you decide to book with them.
I'm currently going with an asymmetrical bob - Shorter in back and long on sides and bangs. I really do not do guy mode anymore but i am able to slick it back and make it look pretty masculine if i want to, using gel, pomade, etc. The best part is no mullet look :)
I'm about 11 months into growing my hair out.
The back of my head goes into a pony tail.
For the rest a use a lot of gel, mousse and hair spray to smooth it out.
I just tuck mine behind my ears. 12 months growth and it's about jaw length on the sides and longer in back.

I got a pitiful haircut last year and had to start over again. I am going toward a bob, but I want mine eventually the same length all around-that's the thought anyway. Also it took a while but I found how to use different size round brushes to get the right curl in my style. That was a big day for me. :D
