Title: Started coming out
Post by: Caryn on January 10, 2016, 01:22:36 AM
Well I decided to come out to my mother, it was my birthday of all days lol, just seemed fitting. It wasn't easy but once I started it became easier. When I was done she looked at me and told me well I kind of figured it was something like that, and told it doesn't mater who I am I will always be her kid ( she didn't say daughter, but did not say son either so ill take it) and would accept me no matter what. Unbelievable I told here, wish I would of known this sooner I wouldn't of waited to my late 40's. Made me so happy I almost got a speeding ticket on my way to therapist appointment, couldn't wait to tell her, it  felt like such a great accomplishment.

Congrats. It's always great to have the acceptance and support of parents. Just be mindful that the first reaction is not always the final reaction - as what you've said to her sinks in she may have doubts/questions/fears/concerns so be prepared for that. If she has started out saying she is supportive that bodes well for the overall outcome - but if my experience with my folks (at that of others on this site) is anything to go by just be ready for a bit of bumpy weather along the way. Hope it continues to go great for you. :)

Caryn,

That's brilliant. Ms Grace has some good advice. Enjoy you positive experience and be ready to keep coming out.

Good luck and I hope you have  a smooth journey.

With warmth,

Joanna

I'm prepared or at least I think I am, for the questions and what my come. I did tell her to let me know if there are any questions or if she just wants to talk. LOL then she tells me I'm not the first to come out in the family, apparently I have a nephew who is openly gay and another they suspect may be trans. So I'm hoping its not to much of a shock for the family.
