The time has come for me to discuss this with work. I keep seeing sites saying you should talk to HR first and they list lots of samples of emails to coworkers, but what do I need to tell HR? Since I'm a remote worker, I am literally full time right now, but my legal name hasn't been changed yet. It's in work. I want to get through this pretty quickly because it's becoming very difficult to convince people that my driver's license is really mine.
Since I am a remote worker, I can't just walk into HR's office. I'm planning on using email for the contact so there's a paper trail just in case. My company does already have a policy in place and as a govt contractor, I'm covered there too. It doesn't mean they can't let me go without cause though (It's one of those states). On the other hand all the other transition issues don't affect the company except for the very rare appearances I make on site.
Disregard. I managed to find a sample on this very site. I'm not sure how I missed it before!
When I had my first conversation with HR I asked about their policies toward transgender employees. That was recommended by my prior therapist. One of the few things she got right. Then I scheduled a face to face meeting and discussed my transition. This may not be possible in your case and you know your employers policy already so this may not fully apply.
