Title: SRS Sex/Gender Reassignment Surgery
Post by: GingerMaxim on January 21, 2016, 03:03:32 AM
Has any one here on the forums had SRS?

I am now ready to proceed, but I am not clear on the criteria and other things I must do?

Informed, knowledgeable Comments welcome.

P.S. I am in Ontario, Canada
Thank you.

(You might want to look in the dedicated GRS forum. :) I don't know much about Canada's procedures, though - ironic, since I had mine done there!)

At a conservative estimate I would think we have several hundred post-op members mostly we lurk in the Postoperative seection of the forum - so either here or there you should find your answers. I would love to help but I'm about 30 years postop and in the UK so a.) out of date and b.) in the wrong country, but I'm sure you'll get an answer.

Hi Ginger Maxim;

As you are in Canada, have you gone through the referral clinic? In Ontario it is CAMH in Toronto but the back log is terrible. I put in back in March 2014 and still waiting to be seen. I did get a confirmation letter but that is it. So, I said to hell with it and financed my own surgery through Dr. Christine McGinn in New Hope, Pennsylvania at her clinic, the Papillon Centre.

If you are cleared in Canada, I don't know if you can choose your own surgeon as there are only 2 in Canada who are licenced to perform the surgery at public expense. Dr. Brassard is one but for personal reasons I went with Dr. McGinn.

So, if you want OHIP to fund your surgery, you'll have to go through CAMH and be very, very patient.

PM me if you need anything else.

Love,
Clare
