Title: Discharge and blood after srs
Post by: leroux on January 31, 2016, 01:44:31 PM
Hi girls,

I'm Arianna, writing from Italy, and I hope someone could give me some advice.
I had SRS in september 2015, with Dr Brassard and I'm completely satisfied with the result, aesthetic and sexual function are perfect.
The problem is that I need to wear a pad constantly, because still have lot of yellow discharge with no smell, and often (almost daily) some blood. I'm doing two dilation a day.
My gynecologist suggested an infection and after a swamp, Strep B was found in the vagina. I was treated with antibiotics, but at the end of the therapy discharges are come back again.
Reading online seems that this bacteria does't bring to infection, but during antibiotics therapy discharge decreased a lot.
The advice from Brassard's office  is to vaginal douche two time a day, but doing so nothing is changed, and also don't recommend me to do a speculum exam before 6 months after the surgery, in order to confirm the presence of granulation inside the vagina.
I'm starting to worry a lot, i'm afraid of having a fistula or I don't know what else.
Could you tell me your experience?

You need to have an internal examination as soon as possible to see what is going on. The antibiotic may not have cleared up the issue and it appears you aren't healing correctly. I had an infection and healing issues after surgery and I needed several visits to a gynecologist to clear up the issues. You need to explain to the doctor doing the examination that the surgery is pretty current and he will need to be careful not to over stress the skin while doing the examination.

The discharge should have stopped a few months after surgery and shouldn't have gone on this long.

To treat my infection, I was given medication that was placed inside my vagina before dilation. I was receiving internal examinations a month or two after surgery to check the healing so I am a bit surprised how long you have gone with one.

It does sound like that should have cleared up by now if it was the usual post-op discharge.

I don't know what the problem might be, but I can tell you that I also went to Brassard and I had a speculum exam (gently) at 4 months post-op with no problems. I obviously can't recommend that you disregard your surgeon's instructions... but I didn't *know* about those instructions when I did it.

I don't think a fistula is likely based on those symptoms, but again, I'm not a doctor.

So do you think that could be something dangerous? Nurses from Asclepiade are telling me that is normal to have discharge at this stage, but I feel that there is something wrong. I don't know what to do.

Oh, well, if the nurses are saying it's normal, then I'd trust them. :) No one here is likely to have one tenth the expertise they do with GRS patients (and especially Brassard patients). Also, generally, infections do have some sort of very noticeable smell...
