I hope this was the correct place to post this.
I'm 2 1/2 months on T, and have top surgery scheduled for Feb. 23rd. I'm trying to get my name changed as soon as possible, but I have no idea how to go about it. I've Googled a few many times, and I can't find anything on the CURRENT process for trans people in MD (I know laws have been changing). At what point am I allowed to do this? Do I have to wait until after top surgery to even fill out the paperwork? Where do I go/how do I change my gender? Is that just done at the MVA or Social Security Admin or???
What do I change first? How long after I change my legal name do I have to wait before I can get my new ID from the MVA? Do I need my new license in order to change my name at the bank, work, etc? I have absolutely not even a single tiny idea as to how to go about ANY of this, and I feel so overwhelmed thinking about every single thing I'm going to need to change (credit cards, health insurance, car loan, car title...) I don't know where to start and have almost no free time to even look into these things (working constantly to be able to afford this expensive top surgery that I NEED asap).
I feel like I'm drowning. Please, anyone who can throw me a raft, I would really appreciate it.

It's from August of 2014, but should still be valid. You could always call the places it lists to send things to and confirm that the process is still the same.
Driver's License gender change procedure involves petitioning the physicians board. It's that same bunch of people who issue special drivers licenses for people with disabilities. It takes a couple months. You need to send them letters from your doctor and therapist. Probably best to call the MVA and ask exactly how to do it.
Name change varies by county. Most counties have web pages that tell you how to do it. If you can't find it, call your county clerk and ask where the instructions are.
I know someone who transitioned and changed name and marker in Carrol County. They said you had to announce it in the paper for one thing. I am not quite ready to do yet, so I don't know the exact details. I'll share if I find out anything.

Okay folks. Asking people to commit and illegal activity is against TOS 5 and will not permitted on the site. Also lets be careful of attacking others for the responses they have given. TOS 15. Thanks
