INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Transgender Hoosiers are planning a Monday-morning rally at the Statehouse to push for civil rights protections.
The rally will give the activists a chance to meet with lawmakers who are set to decide the issue.
"All we really want to do is live; that's kind of it in a nutshell," said Jackie Patterson, the executive director of Indiana Transgender Wellness Alliance.

Good to see Transgender Hoosiers not giving up!
This is what we need more of - trans people coming out of the shadows and demanding to be treated as human beings.

INDIANAPOLIS -At the statehouse, the Senate has two days left to deal with the issue of civil rights.
The bill currently being considered in the Senate, SB 344, extends civil rights protections to lesbian, gay and bisexual people, but not transgender Hoosiers.
We talked to one transgender Hoosier about how it feels to be left out.

Indiana senators have another day before they debate any changes to a bill that would protect lesbian, gay and bisexual — but not transgender — people from discrimination, as Republicans who control the chamber put off action Monday following a closed-door meeting and lobbying pressure.
"I'm working on some amendments and some other people have asked me to hold it," said bill author Sen. Travis Holdman, R-Markle.

INDIANAPOLIS-The Indiana State Senate killed a bill Tuesday that would have granted civil rights protections to lesbian, gay and bisexual Hoosiers before it could even come up for a vote.
Reaction is coming in from all sides of the debate, but one group that had a stake in the outcome, transgender Hoosiers, were not sad to see the bill die. They say it was flawed.
"We wanted to move forward with the LGBT community, the whole community," said Chris Paulsen with Freedom Indiana. "Unfortunately that's 46 more weeks that we will have thousands of people discriminated against. But, all or nothing was that too much? No it wasn't too much. A little bit of discrimination is not all right. We need full protections. There is no such thing as partially equal."

Although we lost, thanks to news coverage like that of WTHR many people got to see that Transgender people are that, people. And although it is still legal to discriminate against all LGBT people, it will not always be that way. The fight for equality will not end until we ALL have equal protection under the law.
