The Lady Chablis, the transsexual Savannah nightclub entertainer made famous by her role in the book and movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, will serve as the event's grand marshal.
Chablis said her involvement was spurred by seeing firsthand how deeply the illness affected people.
''Lupus is a disease that has long been dismissed or ignored, and at best misunderstood,'' she said.
