"Transgender men and women are more visible on screen and in Western media than ever before – and Boy Meets Girl actor Rebecca Root says that Britain was definitely ready for a series about a trans character.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com at the Radio Times Covers Party, Root said she was delighted by the fact that there'll be a second series of the BBC2 show, in which she stars as trans woman Judy dating a younger man, Leo (Harry Hepple)."

The only thing about this show is it's so bland lol

I like Rebecca Root but I don't feel like I know anything about the character she plays, they've tried so hard to make it safe and not alienating for cis audiences...

Not sure what you mean by that. The episodes were mostly about dealing with the difficulties that comes with dating a trans person. Like the ep where her bf saw an old picture of her as a man so was unsure whether to carry on their relationship or the one where they were at a bowling alley and got shouted at by a transphobe or the one were his family find out she isn't cis. All episodes dealing with difficult and complex issues trans people have to deal with.
True they should have shown her at work and having a social life with her own friends; buy I liked how they showed her like any other woman trying her best to get through life without her past holding her back.

Yeah I didn't say they weren't dealing with stock trans issues? I mean the viewpoint was too much from the filter of the cis family.

Oh ok. I just meant they dealt with many difficult topics that would most likely alienate cis audiences; but showed it anyway because it's realistic to what a trans person has to put up with.
