Title: Malignant Hyperthermia
Post by: DiamondBladee on February 04, 2016, 01:22:19 PM
Hey all, I want you to check a little something out real quick.  I have Malignant Hyperthermia (genetic mutation), which in summary means I cannot be put down for surgery of any kind with general aesthetic.  Though SRS is sme tears out there for me, I'd like to get a little research done ahead of time so that it isn't a shock when I can't find a doctor that is alright with doing it local or such.

Virginia, United States

Thanks all xoxoxo

I don't know much about this but I have some thoughts. The first is research all the drugs available that can be used in surgery. It's very possible there are some that can be used. I know reactions to aesthetics are not uncommon and anybody train in administrating them might be able to suggest a way you could sleep through the surgery safely.

Toby Meltzer has the option to use spinal blocks in his surgery and he is one of the higher rated surgeons. I learned this while I was chasing down some other information on revisions. He has a pretty good backlog so I would suggest if you decide to use him, reserve your date as soon as possible. The link will tell you more.

You are probably already aware of this option, but try asking your surgeon about the possibility of doing the procedure under spinal anesthesia (epidural, etc.).  I can't say whether your surgeon would be open to this option, but it is worth trying!

MH is a muscular disorder, so I don't think that would help.  I've done my research, its probably likely that someone can do it under locals.  I can imagine finding someone to do srs AND local aesthetics is fairly more uncommon, and might even have an additional cost taped to it.  Maybe technology will develop over the next few years and perhaps they'll be more common :)

I have no idea who my surgeon would be yet; I'm still pre-HRT and still a minor.  I was just curious to know if this would become a problem in the future.

I don't think about srs much honestly, but when I do I just wonder if my MH would ever be an issue.

Spinal blocks are a local, just the lower half of your body. You would be wide awake throughout the procedure. Most often they are used to eliminate the pain of giving birth while keeping the mother awake and free of drugs.

Well that's true, but I haven't heard of spinal blocks being used in any of these particular procedures, so I'm not quite sure.  I don't see why not though...  But I'm not a doctor here :P

Lol, take off my glasses and I go blind anyway, almost as good as sleeping :)
