So I'm in communications with my boss, his boss, and HR about me starting the at work transition. I'm responding to one of their emails and asking who I need to tell, including our absolutely enormously named email group. I can't remember the name, so I add it to the email to type it from that... then I forget to remove it before I send. So while talking to management about how to come out to the team, I told the whole team. Maybe they won't notice.
That is jumping in and not wading.....
You'll be fine.
Hugs
Jen
Yep, that's an oops moment.
On the positive side, you have now saved a whole lot of effort (and possibly apprehension too)!!

OMG!!!! :icon_yikes:
I had a very close call with email prior to coming out, at one stage I thought I had sent an email to all staff. To say I felt panic would be an understatement so I can understand where you're at. All I can suggest is to figure out how to make the best of it - turn it into a positive.
From my email settings, I've placed it to say it is coming from Kate, and I noticed that not many people realize that. Especially when I have to send emails out to my army command, and peers.
Kate <3
Four people did contact me about the email yesterday, so I just went ahead and told them exactly what it was about. They all just said ok and one suggested we meet up next time I'm in town. So maybe it won't be that bad and upper management said congrats and that it's cause for a celebration, so I won't have any issues with them either. We do have team members that were on my deadname Facebook though that were starting anti-trans petitions to get new and improved oppression laws created and telling people to sign them when the caitlyn jenner thing hit the news, so it'll be interesting to see how they react.
Hey Emileeee - just wondering how things are going four weeks on?
I'm pretty scared about the whole 'bringing my transition to work' thing still..
It went exceptionally well. They just introduced me as a new hire, even though I've been working with these people for 10+ years across two companies. A couple asked me some questions afterward. One wanted me to go to lunch with them and I went. Two of them seemed to give me the evil eye. One of those two later came up to me and told me they wished they had my courage. My boss just said, "You only live once and if it makes you happy, do it."
As far as overall reception, they switched to using the new name the same day I told them. With the exception of the two people that asked me questions, nobody has asked any questions at all. It's like they've always known me as the new name and it's business as usual.
For the bathroom thing, upper management said there's no issue and anybody that did have an issue with it would have to get over it. I still ended up using a bathroom on a less populated floor. The staff wasn't notified of management's position on the bathrooms, so I didn't want to push it.
Fantastic. I'm really glad things worked out ok. Sounds like a nice team of people.
If you don't mind my asking, do you have to deal with customers or suppliers at all? How have they handled it?
Not on my current project. I have done projects where I was an advisor to the customer, but not this one.
Thanks. I'm still figuring out how I would suggest the company notify the various international organisations I do business with.. A few are from conservative cultures.
Sounds like your transition at work went very smoothly (notwithstanding the email). Well done! [emoji4]
I wish I could offer assistance. My company is an international company, but I'm not currently customer-facing. Although our customer is always the same, the chances of me having to be reintroduced to someone I already worked with, aside from other contractors, is slim. The project has success, they get promoted and pcs'd to another location. It usually happens every couple years.
I'm not sure how they'd handle it if I had a constant working relationship with the customer. It's not like they can pull the new hire routine. I pretty much look the same, just with a slight change to the shape of my face. I think they'd know.
Thanks Emileeee. I appreciate all the info you have shared. I will chat to some others who have had to explain to external business contacts.
I'm glad it has all been smooth sailing for you. Look forward to hearing about how things are going in a few months.
Congratulations !
