Title: Hey there all
Post by: loyalkirsten on February 15, 2016, 08:02:00 AM
Hey there. I have been lurking for a very long time on here. And with a little talking to my fiance I'm finally ready to get started. Then I realized, "omg, how do I get started?" I am a trans woman pre-everything. I'm 22 y/o aa. I still have beard stubble, 5 oclock shadow and very muscular arms. I have already accepted who I am and I do have a goal to eventually go full time and get SRS.

Basically what I am asking to the other women on here, is how did you take  your first steps and what did you do first.
Any and all tips would be helpful! Thanks!

My first step that actually made a difference was going to a gender specialized psychologist and getting it all out.  After that I started HRT but just talking to the psychologist was a huge relief.

Hello and welcome  :)

You might start with easy reversible steps, like changes to hair and clothing style.
and see how it makes you feel... I'd say go with a feeling of joy....

second hand stores could be a good source for clothing...

I'd say take the time you need but keep at it...
its a process, but many have been there before and succeeded, and people here will try to support you.

And you might keep asking questions, alone writing might help getting a better view...

You might think about a good gender therapist...  a supportive person to help you along...
if they are not supportive you might look for another...
you might ask at trans groups, plannedparenthood, a lgbt center or a school counselor you trust for a referral...

hugs

hello :) im new here myself but welcome

the way i did it was very gradual, i started to wear more feminine shirts while still wearing boys pants then i started wearing mascara and then womens pants, eyeliner etc. etc. and it seemed to go over very well even when i wasnt out about my transition

in the meantime i would recommend you get set up with a gender therapist as many others had said, in the us a letter of recommendation is not required to start hrt but definitely makes it easier to get a prescription  , however a letter is required for srs and it can take years to get the recommend so the sooner you start the better!

Kirsten Danielle,

I have kinda just started the process as well. The first thing to remember is - this is fun! Play (or practice lol)  with makeup, wear  stuff that you don't plan on going out in. Try on EVERYTHING that fits. Figuring out what you like to wear takes time, but if you have someone to help you its a lot easier. Shaving my body and legs, Perfume and some hair along with some basic makeup tips- I felt completely different.

Thanks Gabi!

And UPDATE!!!!!
I just did what I never thought I had the strength to do: I came out to my mom. I don't know what I expected but her telling me she has always known and that she will love me the same no matter what was not one of them. I cryed (tears of joy) because  I just never thought that my core people would accept me. My fiancee And my mother both are supporting me and I just... I just am very happy atm.

Hi Kirsten and welcome to Susan's. Congratulations on coming out to your mom. I'm sure that a weight was taken off your shoulders. You probably are so thrilled that she supports you. Support from family members is a huge plus.
