"The winner of the Miss Transgender UK pageant was stripped of her crown for not being "full-time" transgender, the organiser has claimed.

The pageant launched for the first time last year – but attracted controversy for offering all-expenses-paid gender reassignment surgery in India as a 'prize'.

Scottish trans woman Jai Dara Latto was initially named the winner of the contest – but organiser Rachael Bailey hit out at her this week, amid coverage of Ms Latto going on a charity hike."

I think part of the problem is the word transgender/transsexual itself.  There is no common definition that everyone agrees to, even in the trans community.

Is it:
A.  A state of mind/identity that exists independent of the stage of physical transition.

Or

B.  The physical state of gender transition.

I know what this site defines but many outside of here, both in and out of the community, will argue for the second definition and say those in the first category are not trans at all.

I believe the first definition is correct.  But until the community comes together and doesn't snipe at and delegitimize those that either are not as far along or that follow a variant path things like this will happen.  We can be our own worst enemies.

Then again, it's not like this whole contest wasn't controversial in the first place or anything.
I mean, it was pretty much "Whoever passes the best gets their op for free", as the main deal of the whole thing.
Which is some of the grandest natural fertilizer of bovine origin that I have ever seen.

I don't understand why they gave her the prize in the first place if they didn't think she was 'trans enough'.

Lab tests can take up to a week or  more.

Is it just me, or does this article make it sound like the evidence of her "un-transness" was wearing boxers to work out? What the everloving heck? Please tell me I misread.

that's what it sounds like! But cis girls wear boxers all the time, and it's probably safer for her to go to the gym in neutral clothes... what's she supposed to wear, a ballgown?

You think that if it really mattered that much, they would have screened applicants a little better at first.  There's more to it than that.

Yeah, this. Maybe they've got something against drag queens?

Stupid prize for a country that does free ops with well known surgeons as standard for trans care. I can't imagine she is particularly fussed.

Yeah but that's from the beginning of transition. I doubt that anyone at the beginning of transition would be entering such a thing. They will have too much on their minds!

I remember when I went to therapy in a ball cap, t-shirt, jeans, zero makeup and tennis shoes because quite frankly, I didn't want to put up with the cat calls.

The doc reminded me that in order for my insurance to cover HRT, I had to go as a woman full-time.

I complimented her slacks, dress shoes, button up an short hair.  I asked her how she got to look so good without makeup.

And how much I loved the nurse's scrubs.

Point was taken, but to have to deal with this kind of crap is a little frustrating.
